Would Hearns shut Whitaker out at 147?

I think that depends on how aggressive Hearns is being. If he's trying to move in with punches I think he could find himself in a spot of bother. If he's boxing very conservatively then I think Whitaker would have difficulties. But I don't know if Hearns is the type of fighter who would do well boxing carefully and missing a lot and it's also very difficult to bank rounds in this manner - and be sure. But of course it depends on a whole lot of other stuff.

But I just think it's a complicated fight to call. It's complicated for me.

This fight would remind me of the Benitez one where Hearns throws 8 punches and most of them are either slipped or blocked by Benitez but by the time he can get off, Hearns already got out of his range

I just can't see a way Pea wins at this weight!!!

Hearns is very close to being unbeatable on the cards at WW IMO...you've got to KO him.

However, I don't think this detracts at all from Pea's standing as a great fighter, I'd say it's a little silly to suggest that!!!

Great comparison!! And add in the fact that Pea is a southpaw, which would make him even more difficult to hit. And alot better on the inside than Benitez was. Capable of handling any Hearns roughhouse tactics. A Lightweight version would give Hearns alot of trouble. But the Welterweight version, was a little slower & Hearns' jab could be a major problem.

Your friend is probably right in that Hearns dominates & stops Whitaker.

Your friend is definitely wrong that this makes Whitaker a non-ATG.

Nobody thought Hearns could outbox Leonard, but he did. Hearns has everything to trouble Pea: speed, accuracy, serious power and a hell of a reach. In fact, Hearns' physical advantages are almost comic, a ten inch reach advantage among them. I just don't think Pea would be able to land anything, and if he comes inside he's going to get KO'd on the way in. I just can't see Pea winning this.

Pea is a southpaw -- only easier to hit with Hearns' devil of a right.

Hearns was jabbing comfortably from range the whole time against Leonard! I don't know how Hearns has acquired this reputation as an all-out slugger. He's a great boxer, with tremendous power as just one of his many attributes.

Nobody is calling him an all out slugger. Idiots are rare on this forum.

I think if Hearns can get to Benitez and Leonard he can get to Pea. If he can get to him, then its possible he can stop him, i say possible, because no one knows exactly how durable the guy was due to his defence. I think Hearns wins, he had tremendous speed and reach and his defeats were due to being outmanned as opposed to outboxed.

An occasional right. But mostly harmlessly sailing over Whitakers head, pretty much as it did against Benitez. Thus exposing Hearns' right side of his body. & he doesn't respond to body attacks well.

although a stoppage win for hearns is not out of the question i feel hearns would have to settle for a ud ,whitaker has moves and angles to frustrate hearns but i dont think to pull off a win

i dont recall seeing a tall rangy lightweight that could beat whitaker

This again? The way you make it seem, Hearns was transitioning from tit to bottle at WW. He was at his peak at WW there IMO, and would beat Whitaker rather easily every time. Experience in this matchup means ****.
