I'm betting Liston would destroy him, but Holyfield was a tricky, clever fighter when he wanted to be. I think Sonny would make quick work of Holyfield in his prime (early 90s) but might struggle a bit with the more muscular, cerebral version of Holyfield during the 1996-1998 years. What do you think?

Holyfield isn't getting destroyed by anyone in the history of boxing.

yeah, he has a chance. Holyfield of the first Bowe fight has a chance against any heavyweight ever. I don't know who I would pick though, without being biased.

Liston beats him, but holyfield is competitive. Holy would try to brawl with Liston and would find himself outgunned.

Replace Bert Cooper with Sonny Liston and I think you know the result.

He'd have one hell of a lot more than just a chance...

Yep - Holy would shake off a rocky moment or two while otherwise outclassing Liston.

How is he going to "outclass" Liston when he struggled beating 2nd tier contenders?

The same way Ali did while struggling to beat 2nd tier contenders.

    :good 100% agree with this..

Holyfield is no cake walk for anyone..

I actually think he beats Liston, in a tough fight in which down the stretch Holyfield will have more fire power, land more punches and just prove to be the better fighter.. I don't think he stops Liston as I have great respect for Liston's chin, but he lands more often and gets a points win!!

Holyfield would have a chance and then some against Liston. Holy could take a punch and had the courage and determination to potentially demoralize a bully like Liston. This fight could go either way as far as I'm concerned and the longer it goes the more I favor Holyfield.

So Holyfield is going to circle away from Liston with his dazzling footwork and footspeed, and land blistering fast flurries before dancing out of range all night?

Also is Holyfield fighting the alchoholic aging Liston of 64 or the determined hungry prime Liston of 1959? which one is it?
