You mean like he did to Buster Douglas? Very possibly.

Either one. I'd definitely favor him over the '50s Liston that was still untested/unproven against the top tier competition.

Prime 1991 Holy at 208 was too fast and skilled for rugged '60 Liston.......:deal

    Holy wins a decision over 12 to 15 rds......:good

There's a lot of Holyfield supporters here. I thought he was underappreciated on this forum. Glad I was wrong. :)

holyfeild would have to watch out for listons atg jab. i remember holyfeild getting put on his heels against foremans jab, and for what i hear, listons is a bit faster.

No heavyweight fighter past or present would make "quick work" of Holyfield. I'm not sure about who wins the fight, but I dont think anybody is getting stopped. Good thread though, this is a close competitive fight to me.

They won't keep it a nice boxing match, that one seems certain at least. Who would fold quicker? If it's pretty much an all out brawl (young Holyfield was taking no step back, right?), I pick Liston by late TKO, he's a more natural heavy. If Holyfield fights somewhat smarter than that (like with Tyson maybe), I go with him by UD.

Edit: So I agree with the opie.

Sheesh, you make Liston out to be this Danny Green-like figure or something. What ring legend did Liston ever knock out with the first jab of a fight? I ask you.

Holyfield was the bully-destroy. And that's what he would do, defy the odds.

I agree with the consensus, that Holyfield isnt a push over for anyone. Liston though to me, seems to be somewhere between a Tyson (that Holy fought) and Riddick Bowe. Tyson did cause problems for Holyfield in that first fight, and Riddick obviously caused problems. Liston would almost be like a combination of these two, but with a much better jab, though in fairness, i am not so sure he could soak up punishment like the Riddick who faced Holyfield.

I actually agree with the earlier poster who had Tyson using the Douglas style and/or the Holy foreman in and out style gives him his best chance. The problem is though that Holy isnt anywhere near as fast as the Ali who beat liston and Liston is nowhere near as slow as the Foreman or Douglas that Holyfield faced. I think that Liston eventually wins a wide decision or possibly even stops Holyfield. Still, a Holyfield win, would not surprise too much.

Interesting match. Holyfield's toughness and very durable body would certainly force Liston to make a heart check. I kind of like Holyfield via a hard fought split decision, with his hand speed being the difference.

Evander would definitely have a chance to beat Liston,he had the ability to do so. But because of Holyfield's propensity to get involved in a brawl, when the going got tough, would spell disaster for him. Liston would relish a brawl, and probably win by stoppage halfway through the bout.

This is going to be a brawl either way. After thinking about it more, I think Holyfield pulls it out. Holyfield is meant to outbox/outbrawl the bullies like Liston. Holyfield has been wars before, with people stronger and bigger then him. He would use his hand speed to win the exchanges, and stagger Liston. Considering Liston is tough, I got Holyfield by split decision, since Liston has a granite chin. Holyfield might get knocked down at some point though. He's gonna look to brawl with Liston, and realize that it's not the right choice. Or he might not even go down. Holyfield was a tough son of a *****, and he proved that in the bowe fights, the Tyson fights, and the Qawi fights. If Liston throws his best bomb at Holyfield, Holyfield is gonna come back. I think he can handle Liston. Holyfield is meant to beat up bullies like him.
