sorry, I actually didn't think you was being serious with the Toney question, that's why I answered it the way I did. If I would have realised you was being serious I would just have answered it genuinely. My mistake.
Well of course. Floyd is the greatest of all time so it goes without saying that if he beats Floyd he schools RJJ. Sturm vs Prime Merchant would have been competitive
No problemo. My analysis of styles is not my strong point. Its seems so obvious when someone points it out to me though.
Hopkins didn't even want to fight Jones in 2008 when Jones was shot to pieces, he ran from the fight in 01, he knows Jones is his daddy, Jones won easy with 1 hand, Semi Shot Jones probably still wins with both hands tied behind his back and all Hopkins knowledge taught him 1 thing, Jones was his daddy
Merchant 50years ago beats Mayweather, Jones, Hopkins, Foreman all at the same time, why do you think he talks **** to them, he knows they can't **** with a Prime Merchant
In this case he would have been either penalized by the referee (Jones was the reigning and defending titlist) , DQd , or just flat out losing the fight by body punch KO , which is the real result of Jones vs. Hopkins #2 .
No because Roy had blistering speed then. At that stage he was just too fast and evasive for Hopkins.
Actually no, because I don't buy the myth that Hopkins didn't know what he was doing the first time. I thought Hopkins fought the way he fights even in the first fight. He was cautious, defensive, cagey, looking to catch Roy when he could, but Roy's far superior talent, blazing speed, power, and reactions were enough to eek it for him, and Roy was similar to Hopkins in that fight in that he didn't take many chances either, and just did the bare minimum to win. He out-Hopkins Hopkins in that one, because he could do what Bernard did, only with more talent. Tactical semi-dull bout, but interesting from a historical perspective. Both guys clearly respected the other, and it would have been a nearly exact replay even several years later. Only way Bernard beats Roy is when Roy slows down, which didn't happen for many years, when he was much older.
no way. Hopkins does the same thing Floyd does and handpicks. Although to his credit he handpicks better guys than FLoyd has handpicked and he is older. Roy Jones in his prime was too fast for anything Hopkins did.
Embarassing question, what's going on , this site was once for considered opinion, Bernard had a chance if he entered the ring with an AK-47, barring that his chance his zero!
Agree with this post. I think RJJrs speed and reflexes at that time would still be too much for Hopkins. Maybe Hopkins catches him with a quick counter and hurts him with Jones' cockiness getting to his head. Bernard was still a more reckless tactician in his early years based on what I saw from the Echols, Vanderpool and Simon Brown fights. He became a much better counterpuncher with better shot placement later in his career which he didn't establish in his younger days. Jones speed still carries him through this fight.
