Would it be more proper to refer to the following as "UK" or "British" Fighters?

Have you not heard, they have found a load of gas off the west coast of Ireland. They reckon the ocean is full of it. The British are only going to give back Northern Ireland now if the Irish accept the rest of Great Britain along with it.

Wrong. Don't comment on things you know nothing about. You just end up sounding stupid.

I wouldn't call it being anal. His ignorace should be pointed out, what he said would be very offensive to many people.

I was taught in School ( many years ago now ! lol ) That Great Britain was England , Scotland and Wales ? And the UK was Britain and Ireland ? !!!! But I thought Ireland are no longer part of the UK anymore ( I thought they went on there own when they went to the Euro ? )

I am probably wrong and do not attend to offend anyone thats just what I thought it was !!!:good

P.s - Could be the other way around - UK = England , Scotland and Wales and Britain is UK + Ireland

You're almost right. The UK is England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (which is six counties in the North East of the island of Ireland). The people of Northern Ireland can choose their nationality to be British or Irish since an agreement in 1998 called the Good Friday Agreement.

The Republic of Ireland (the rest of the island) is a completely seperate state.
