Would it make sense to have more exhibitions bouts between former greats?

Tyson Jones changed my mind on the subject. I think there's a place for it, done correctly.

The problem remains that almost no one else has the resources Tyson has to do it right. So when other retirees see Tyson, Lewis, ODLH, and JCC all back to earning they'll try too and we'll have B level 90/00s HWs fighting on Facebook Live to settle their bar tabs.

 

imho exhibition bouts don't work in boxing. It's not like golf where former greats can show skills while having a natter about the good old times. Boxing is an all in sport. Either you're trying to take the guy down or it's just naff.

Each to their own but not something i'd pay for.

 

Not spending my money on it, but if it starves the diva club into fighting one another, I'm for it.

Boxing needs to develop current stars not look to the past and have over the hill former greats risk their health and safety in the ring. Maybe have the good guys of today fight top opponents more often and fight more frequently. Less cherry picking. That would make me happier than seeing geezers stumble around the ring.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the old retired boxers beat up YouTube guys. That would be a safe, low risk payday and we could see irritating assholes get beat up. Everyone wins in that scenario.

 

I'm totally torn on it to be honest.
As much as I'd love to see exhibition bouts between old fighters that are in good physical and mental health, it's the serious risk possiblitys that also puts me right off the thought.

Age, fitness & ability wise even if it's a level playing field between two fighters in that respect, their punch resistance isn't going to be the same.

As we know a fighters punch power is one of the last things he's loses so a 50+ yro may very well still have that power generally. Unfortunately his own, or his opponents chin won't be as good as it was. That, then is a recipe for serious damage.

 

I have no issue with it, some fun exhibitions out there. The recent Inoue vs Higa one was fun, Chavez vs Arce has been fun, Kenshiro vs Kyoguchi was good, Galaxy vs Watanabe was great, no issue with them at all,
