Would it shock you if Silva rematched Sonnen... and dismantled him with ease?

    I, like most people, tend to think that if Anderson Silva rematched Chael Sonnen, we'd most likely see another hard-fought fight, with Sonnen landing takedowns, both men doing damage to the other on the ground, and some vicious stand-up exchanges occurring on the feet (although I'd back Anderson to win a little more decisively this time).


    However, a friend of mine is adamant that:

    - Silva's rib injury

    - Sonnen being juiced to the max, and

    - Silva's troubled preparations for the fight

    basically made a fight between two fighters on different levels much closer than it ever would be again.


    He feels that if they rematched, Silva would dazzle and dominate Sonnen, perhaps not as easily as he did with Okami, but much easier than their first fight was.

    My mate says if they rematch, Silva will defend takedowns much better than he did last time, and perform MUCH better on the feet than he did last time. He tips a 2nd or 3rd round TKO, as a vengeful Anderson will outclass and dismantle Chael.



    Wishful thinking, or a probable scenario? :think

    chaels wrestling is ****ing phenomenal, and his boxing is not on par with andersons stand up, but it is good enough to touch silva up and get the takedown.

    anderson might submit him faster, but chaels head is like a block of granite, i do not see it ending in anything but a sub for silva unless chael wins.

    Silva stops him again. much faster this time around, 2nd or 3rd round probably by submission but tko wouldnt surprise me.

    Hope the fight happens, so we can find out for sure.

    i believe if anderson gets a fighter like chael sonnen or shogun against him he would stop all that dancing bull**** as he would be either taken down or leg kicked badly so thus i think he has had great success in beating the bums at 185

    It wouldn't shock me but with Anderson, nothing can be taken for granted. I think that Sonnen has a style that's always going to give Anderson problems. He's fast, he's adept at punching his way into the clinch, and when he grabs a dude they go down and with Anderson's lax takedown defense it's almost a definite.

    That being said, Anderson, for all his troubles in sprawling on a takedown or actually fighting out of a clinch, is quite adept at staying out of range and just out of place for a shot to succeed and with a clean bill of health in the rematch his footwork figures to give Chael a lot more trouble in setting up those takedown attempts. I also think that Anderson's ability to watch his opponent and set up his offense off of their mistakes is going to improve, as well, because he's had five rounds to figure out how this guy operates.

    I'm probably going to pick Anderson in this one given his adaptive qualities and Chael's quite predictable MO, but Chael is definitely the one guy that I won't hesitate to put money on if the odds are right.
