What about the weight of the gloves back then? Of course its much easier penetrating cover with small gloves.

Laboratory tests, with pressure sensors, have conclusively proved that they don't make a jot of difference.

Tests have been done with pressure sensors.
I would agree with you there, but there seems to be next to no difference in kinetic energy.

While the smaller gloved probably caused more damage, and were harder to block, I think that a guy who is a KO puncher with the smaller gloves, would still be such with the modern gloves.

It`s nowhere near the same, MMA fighters are always on edge as though they are about to be knocked out, in most boxing matches unless they are heavyweights there is not that feeling unles one of the fighters has one punch KO power.

I don`t care about lab tests, I`ve watched MMA fights and you feel the fight could end at any minute, you only get that in boxing when there`s a heavy puncher involved. Conor`s punch had far less effect on Floyd than his punches had in MMA fights, I was shocked at the one punch arguement before that bout.

Could it be simply down to the fact that a lot of the people getting hit in MMA bouts are not boxers?

For contrast, see how effective ground tactics are, against a person with a boxing background.

Khabib would destroy any boxer his size with his ground game.

Exactly, so a boxer might well punch above their weight, against a grappler who was stupid enough to trade with them.

Boxers do have more power, yes and an MMA expert youtuber stated that Floyd would have knocked Conor out quicker with MMA gloves.

Janitor, that's not correct. Yes it does. Those who say it doesn't have never been hit by a gloved fist. The more padding and cushion the less the impact.

    Correct on the head gear.

The concussive force I could see as similar 6 to 8 to 10 oz gloves as an example. Assuming all the same glove type.

Gloves from Johnsons period were different as they were densely packed with horse hair. When a fist is formed with these gloves the resulting surface is very hard as compared with more modern types.

A harder surface has to create a higher degree of impact.

If it is true he had to brush off some teeth lodged in his gloves, then yes. But if we put today's HW in his era, with no protein shakes, no black magic Panama Bottles, no specialized equipment, no nutritionists, no PEDs, no steroids, not even a GNC store around.....would they have had the ability to deal with Jack whose power probably was the result of genetics and southern cooking.

I think Jack's strength would be more than sufficient.
