I think that Toney has to re establish himself as a serious contender before taking on someone like Vitali. Toney needs a good solid, non controversial win against a top ranked contender in order to shut his critics up. Should he come victorious against a serious player like Thompson, who also resembles Klitschko in height, Toney might be able to re enter the title picture. But to answer your question straight away, I think that even without further proving himself, Toney would- due mainly to his ring savy, defensive skills and rock soild chin- would be able to go the distance with Vitali and even win some championship rounds late in the fight, in doing so. As for Valuev, I think that he is vastly overrated and that he will loose his title to Chagaev before being able to face one of the Klitschko's.
Yeah, Toney needs a solid win first which he will get in my opinion in December. James will then become a major player again. As for Valuev, he is a bum. He is slow as hell and he lost twice to Ruiz.
Two of those three got victory over Klitchko, that is all what matters if the fight don’t go to distance. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Obviously you have not seen these fights. Peter beat Toney only once, in the rematch. That doesn't indicate how Toney would do against Vitali. Peter and Toney are completely different fighters and styles make fights. At least Toney wouldn't be standing in the middle of the ring like a living sandbag for target practice, believe me that.
I agree the only question here is would it go the distance. Toney never faced an active and skilled puncher at heavyweight. I think Vitlai's size, power, reach skills, and ability to land all types of punches would turn James Toney into a bipedal punching bag. Toney might talk a good game, but in the ring, they fight with gloves, not words. For the record, Id rather see Vitlai face Lewis or Valuev. Vitlai vs Toney to me is an interest, but part of the interest is on the tabloid level. I will be rooting for Toney to defeat Thompson so Vitlai has another option.
Yeah, great post... but for every long term observer COMPLETE nonsense. Like Frost and several other poster previsously stated Toney never was a top ranked 175 contender. He was twice on the verge of getting a top ranking, but got beaten twice by Montell Griffin back in 1995 and 1996. In the meantime Toney was defending some bogus WBU belt which prevented him to get a decent ranking within the top 4 organization. He never was in negotiations with Maske. In fact when Toney fought Maske for the 2nd time, Maske has been retired for several weeks. Toney then left the 175 divison following his loss against Thadzi in May 1997, which again happened several months before DM became the true champion of the division by beating Virgil Hill. No offense here, but you need to get your facts straight before posting such statments that obviously are not holding up.
:huh talk about nonsense from the Toney nuthugging ****wits. Nuthuggers - stop pretending Toney wanted to fight Henry Maske.
Are you too damn dumb to even understand my post? I just proved your point that Toney and Maske never wanted to fight each other, moron!!!
"In fact when Toney fought Maske for the 2nd time, Maske has been retired for several weeks." Do YOU two ****s even read what you just posted????????????? & you're calling me dumb & a moron? Jesus ****ing christ. HOLY GOD SATAN & ALLAH! Toney nuthuggers should all be put on an island somewhere with a tv showing constant replays of each controversial Toney fight, which they can all watch & score 120-108 for Toney.
He meant Griffin, just a type error, dumbass. It was obvious what he meant but you are just so damned limited.
Thanks Blade, Sitiyzal: I apologize for the typo, I wrongfully assumed your boxingknowledge to be sufficient to make it up for my error. As always, you seem contend to play with words instead of just sticking to the facts.
