You have to have power to get Mike's respect. Don't think Young is close to having enough of it, even on Tyson's worst day.

Foreman and Tyson are worlds apart, worlds apart. Well, both punch hard and have two arms and two legs. Douglas and Young are also worlds apart.

There's very very little to extrapolate here.

You say Buster missed a ton of shots yet he landed more clean on Tyson than probably all his opponents combined. The more you throw the more you land (overall) typically.

He landed so much because Tyson`s fundamentals were all over the place, he looked like he was stoned.

If Young gets hit by that uppercut from Tyson that literally sent Douglas flying off his feet and onto the canvas with ... Will he survive that?

The lack of power is a genuine concern, but when the other guy is exhausted and frustrated, those accurate right hands could be a problem, just ask Foreman.

Before the fight I don't recall anyone picking Douglas as having the defense or power to beat Tyson either. So there's that to consider.

My money, Young out boxes Tyson but loses a controversial split decision. Tyson with the excellent corner of his prime should beat Young with a genuine decision. Tyson just was never gonna score a late knock out over a cagey opponent, but he could control a fight for 12 rounds.

It was a good shot but I`ve seen Tyson land harder shots and Douglas got caught overcommiting with the jab, Young wouldn`t be that reckless.

I think that Young would have problems getting a decision against Tyson, even if his performance potentially merited it.

If Cus had decided to let tyson turn pro in early 1983 rather than hang around for the olympics this is a fight that could have taken place in late 1984 or early 1985...with young basically fulfilling the quick tillis role

I don't see Young stopping Tyson but he very well may have squeezed out a decision over an unfocused Tyson .. I disagree about that version of Douglas giving any Tyson hell ... that Tyson almost knocked Douglas out .. The price Tyson was an exceptional force ..

It's a surprise Tyson was even allowed to fight. 3/4 of ESB would have beaten him this night Mark. Perhaps he was in worse condition than Ali for Holmes.

There is that. Can you imagine if the fight in Tokyo between Tyson and Young had gone to the score cards, and Jimmy had basically shut him down?
Tyson would have gotten a unanimous decision. No way does Jimmy Young get the title.
Look at what actually happened to Buster, for a few days the WBC and WBA refused to recognize him!
Would probably have been same here. Young has to ko Tyson for the win.

Interesting. Course, by then Young was losing to Tucker, Tubbs etc but still.. A young Tyson struggled a little with Tillis, could Young have really shown him up!

Tyson would only have been 18 in 1984.

The prime Young could have outpointed the Tokyo Mike, sure. Slim chance of a surprise kd of Mike late in the fight, but I wouldn't place bets on it. I doubt Mike could have beat Jimmy at his best h2h, but Mike was of course a much greater ATG. Absolutely.
