I think JMM team wanted to keep him as close as they can to his natural weight to help him retain his natural speed, and movment. A bit like Manny coming in at 142 for the 147 ODH fight. This would give JMM a better chance of beating a bigger Floyd, there is no point of him going to far up in weight to then become too slow for his frame. Floyd also wanted to be as close as he can to his now natural weight of 147, in the end Floyd has the advantage overall as the bigger fighter, but then before the ODH fight everyone said Manny will be too small, this is boxing anything can happen. I know Floyd is not shot or dead at the weight like ODH, but who knows being out of the ring for nearly 2 years might have some effect. Lets hope it's not a one sided fight easy fight for Floyd.
we don't know how fighting at 142 would affect him nevertheless fighting at 146/147. for all we know, jmm might be bloated already. let's see tomorrow.
he needs to keep his speed to some degree....142 is perfect for him in this fight the problem is hes fighting a much bigger man....
Well Pac came in at 142 and weighed 148 1/2 for Oscar. Plus, JMM was expecting until this morning he had to make 144. I already knew Pac-man wasn't going to lose anything cause he weighed 147 for Diaz in the ring, but Marquez weighed about 140 for Juan Diaz, so I'm not sure. He looks pretty good, and I think he'll have more power, but he also needs a high work rate with lots of pressure, so I am hoping the new weight does not hurt his stamina.
One hing that does help JMM though is Mayweather never has had nearly as much power since he moved to WW, and he doesn't really fight "physical", so I would think it's still very good for Marquez if he retains speed, even if smaller.
Thats what I think, the main thing for JMM i feel is to retain his speed and timing and for him the feel good in the ring at this weight, that will give him the best chance vs the bigger man.
