Would Joe Calzaghe Go Through Nigel Benn And Chris Eubank's Resumes Undefeated

Dan Schommer and Steve Collins (II fight) were more dominant against Eubank than Calzaghe was, both beating Chris by 6-7 rounds clearly. Southpaw Schommer countering him bits, and Collins wildly outworking him; Eubank was always going to struggle against a cross between Schommer and Collins (= Calzaghe!)!

 

I think you have a dislike for Calzaghe and the haters are very insecure when he is mentioned because 46-0 doesnt lie and all roads lead to Calzaghe. Just look at the names - Eubank, Jones, Hopkins, Kessler, Lacy, Mitchell, Woodhall, Reid, Brewer, Veit, (now Bika) all held world titles in weights Calzaghe competed in and won world titles in

 

He is just bitter about the domination of Eubank, from a young, raw Calzaghe that was in his first big fight, and didn't refuel or rehydrate like normal because he was so nervous.:yep

 

If it wasn't for Chris Eubank, Joe Calzaghe wouldn't even exist.

The difference is, every round of Eubank-Calzaghe was close and competitive, with Calzaghe hurt in every half-minute. But 11 rounds to one is able. Eubank edged the 2nd and 3rd, with the 5th, 7th and 8th being scrappy and Calzaghe boxing too poorly to be given them.

 

He set the path for Calzaghe to follow - making the WBO title, making the super-middleweight division and bringing SKY-TV to the forefront of boxing for Calzaghe to make far more money than he deserved, and also bringing Showtime to the UK who later screened Calzaghe, too.

 

I see what you are trying to say now.
I think Calzaghe would have made roads regardless as he was a talented fighter, but Eubank did help establish the title and was a big name fighter.

We tend to forget that it was Eubank who showed professional boxers how to become the proper 'pain in the arse' they now are to the men that run the modern sport of boxing. If you like, he gave them a voice and taught them that they were not slaves to TV companies, managers or promoters. It was Eubank's speeches at all the PBA awards in London that gave Calzaghe the confidence to break away from Mickey Duff. Had it not been for Eubank, trust me, Calzaghe would've stayed with Duff and his career would've fizzled out with wars against Henry Wharton and Dean Francis taking too much out of him before facing a Frankie Liles in a non-TV world title (likely unsuccessful) challenge. His fragile character would've caused him to quit boxing.
