Would Joshua be better served just being a wrecking ball than all this backfoot lark?

Rewatching the klitschko fight and whenever Joshua came forward and let his hands go he had klitschko in trouble.

Imagine if they worked on conditioning and stamina and he fought an aggressive come forward pressure style, who could really stand up to that?

Boxing on the backfoot without an authoritive jab isn't playing to his strengths imo.

Dude has fast hands and absoloutley brutal power when he opens up. I just don't think he's suited to the Wlad style.

He’s too rigid for that wrecking ball style with little head subtlety and at the weight would be asking for trouble.
Another problem with that muscularity is emptying the tank - he could come forward, unload, not get the guy out and be gassed after a few rounds.

I think he’s doing things the right way for him, though I don’t find him that exciting to watch.

The less punches you take, the longer your career lasts. Joshua is a money making machine that has to be maintained and geared for longevity.

What he has done the last few fights have not been entirely exciting, however it will help prolong his career.

In a strange way he’s now got too much to lose by just winging in to opponents. I think he will let his hands go when the times right but anyone can clock him at heavyweight. The strange thing is I don’t think their are too many technical boxers at heavyweight so most can actually be outboxed.

    No not at all.

At the highest level you have to have variety, avoid being predictable, not be too gung ho and consider the implications of a lucrative long career versus a slow and terminal brain deterioration.

    The blokes bloody lucky anyway.

Been ko’d dozens of times in sparring yet somehow fluked his way to where he currently is without a single KD against him.

Joshua is a very good boxer with solid fundamentals, why would he disregard those skills to bum rush opponents and leave himself wide open to getting knocked out? He went for it in round 5 against Klitschko and nearly got stopped.

Try telling Parker for example that his jab isn’t authoritative. He dominated Parker with that. AJ moves back in straight lines and is a little tight but at 6”6 and built like a brick ****house he is still a formidable opponent.

His boxing skills are criminally underrated really and that’s all to do with his lack of fluidity.

    Stiff=can’t box

He has a lot of subtleties to his game.

I suppose it depends on who he is fighting but at the top level, no, you shouldn't just go gun ho all the time at everyone.

If he ever fights Tyson, he will have to go back to this old ways and swarm him.

Also you have to consider the longevity of a HW career, klitscho lasted longer because of his defensive nature.

AJ and Hearn know that regardless how AJ fights the fans will continue to follow him, so they will implement a technique that will produce the longer career and ultimately more money
