I guess the big question for me is, How good was manny at lightweight ? He was definitely p4p one of the best of all time but his achievements were compiled across many divisions.
I know who he is i have watched the sport for 50 years,he was a good boxer, but Pacquaio speed, power would bust him up.Pacquaio defeated some really good even great boxers in his day & with ease. The only problem he had was against another great boxer in Marquez. What big named fight did Buchanan beat???/
Yes 8 belts in 8 different weight divisions-Oscar second with 6 different weight division.4 brutal fights with Marquez.3 with Morales.Beat 5'11 Margarito to a pulp at 154.Beat Cotto by 11th round TKO.KO 2nd rd R.Hatton at 140.At 40 years won the ww belt from undefeated boxer (forgot his name)There are many many more .So lets see the list for Buchanan.
He took E.Morales lightly the first didn't happen 2nd or 3rd fight.Nor did it happen against Barrera twice.Or 5'11 Margaritto at 154 who he beat to a pulp. How about Cotto (ranked one Porto Ricos greatest boxers) 11th rd KO.How about R.Hatton Knocked out cold rd 2.These are just a few top top boxers.Lets see Buchanan record Duran who stopped him.Who else???
Ken's not even cold in his grave and he is being called a chump, that is pretty harsh even for this forum
Manny only had 1 x fight at 135lbs. He looked a million dollars in dominating & stopping David Diaz. Clearly, based solely on fights contested at LW, he comes nowhere near Buchnan's formidible resume based on this single fight, but that's pretty much irrelevant in a H2H fantasy contest. I suspect in some/most/all of the fights Manny contests at SFW, he was facing an opponent heavier in the ring than Ken was facing in some/most/all of the fights contested at LW. Ken had an ATG jab and was a brilliant textbook fighter. He had the style that could give Manny problems. But then the Pacquiao of 2008 was a monster, incredible explosive speed, power & workrate, with improving footwork. Imo, a time machine fight isn't fair as Pacquiao likely had the benefit of PEDs, whilst Buchanan didn't (no hate intended towards Manny, I suspect most/all elite modern fighters have benefited from PEDs at some point in their careers), and I'd probably take Manny. A fight where both were clean, and had been their entire careers, takes the levels of speculation to new heights, but I'd guess Buchanan.
Yeah I kinda wondered if there was some assistance when I saw manny manny hammering on the much larger Miguel Cotto. Great performance by PAC but suspicious.
Depends if we are talking natural or juiced up Pacman. Natural fair fight Buchanan for me. The juiced up Pacman wins
Pacquiao had a very unorthodox style for many to adjust to. Buchanan was a solid fighter but I don't see him beating Manny.
Oh, Pacquiao would KO Buchanan. At lightweight? Lights out.. PDQ It's difficult for some people to understand.. but Duran and Pacquiao are 1 and 1A.. nonstop tornado's
I'm not sure Pacquaio could starch Buchanan, but he could always follow the example of Manos de Piedra and deliver a dig to the gonads. That would likely bring proceedings to a premature close and, short of committing some other kind of foul, it is probably the only way of doing so against the Fighting Carpenter.
What Buchanan had that would trouble Pac was a great "stick" or jab, he could double and triple off of it smoothly. It gave the greatest lightweight in history ( My opinion) Duran problems early in their fight. Pac I don't believe fought anyone that could jab as well as Buchanan could. And this is where Buchanan could and probably would win this fight if were comparing both fighters in their primes or close to it. Buchanan's ability to jab, and keep the faster Pac at the end of it , would be the key to his success. Because a great jab can neutralize an opponents hand and foot speed advantages if properly used. I see KB using that jab overtime, and his ability to fight from different angles just enough to keep Pac off balance, Cruiseing on to a hard fought and close majority dec.
