We might as well discuss how Dawson would do against Vitaly.

That fight is just as relevant. Maybe more relevant, because where Dawson is much bigger than anyone Kessler has ever met Dawson would not be the smallest Vitaly has met.

All in all, it is a waste of time discussing both. Especially Kessler at LHW when there is so much to do at SMW and he has said unequivocally that this is his first aim. Kessler is 28-29 years old and has plenty to do at SMW. Calzaghe in the end managed to become undisputed and went up. If he had not become undisputed he would not have considered moving up. Hopkins became undisputed and moved up. It has nothing to do with age, but with accomplishment - e.i. undisputed or not.

What could happen and what would happen are two entirely different things. I've seen Chad get lazy on defense, so it's possible for him to get taken out. However, it porbably wouldn't happen.

Reg there is a pretty massive diffence between having to be crazy to think Kessler knocks him out and you seeing it as a possiblity, if Dawson gets lazy.

    No?

Anything is possible in boxing. Saying Dawson could get lazy and Kessler could put him out is another way of stating this. However, it is not very plausible that Kessler would go up to 175 and stop Dawson. Kessler has beat anyone like Dawson. Dawson has beat guys like Kessler and has beat guys that are better than Kessler.

Mundine would be like a smaller Dawson to an extent. Not as skilled or as big but similar.

Who has Dawson beaten that is better than Kessler?

Kessler's power has yet to be fully determined.

The Kessler uppercut would certainly have got a reaction from Dawson, it may well have KO'd him, who knows, but there's one big difference here. Calzaghe came out looking to use his unorthodox movement to get inside and brawl using his speed, it wasn't until being hit with some bombs that he started to switch his style and box a bit more. By the mid stages Calzaghe had figured that with his speed advantage and better footwork he would get his jab off first, frustrate Kessler with his movement and basically outbox him.

Dawson is a pure boxer, he moves really well, has good timing, good speed and accuracy and would basically do what Joe did from the 6th. Kessler would have to lul Dawson into a brawl to win this one I think, as Dawson has all the tools to get a comfortable UD. Kessler seemed to act too late, by the time he'd realised what was going on it was too late and the fight was lost. Even in the 12th he landed some bombs but generally got outboxed. To win Kessler would have to be on the front foot and be very busy and take advantage of Dawson's burst fighting, if he could apply that kind of pressure he could stop him I'm sure. Kessler hits hard enough for sure, I just don't see him being able to do that.

    Dawson MD/UD for me

If Dawson can clean out 175, which shouldn't be too hard if Calzaghe retires (although I still think he lost to Johnson) and Kessler cleans out 168 which by all accounts he should do although it may take a bit longer for that to sort itself out with all of the talent in that division, then I can see this fight getting made at 175. Kessler would be the fastest, most accurate, power puncher Dawson has ever faced and I think Kessler would knock him out. Dawson might have a chance years from now if he improves his stamina and defense. Right now, his defense is his offense, with his flurries being effective enough to stunt the offense of guys like Tarver. That won't be enough to stop Kessler from countering with offense of his own. In fact, it will probably push Kessler to become more aggressive, and dealing with that pressure is another area Dawson needs to improve upon as evidenced by his fight with Johnson. But one thing Dawson can't improve is his glass jaw.

Dawson would trouble Kessler. To me it is a 50/50 fight. Each has their advantages, and it would a tough fight to call. Dawson has trouble with pressure fighters with strong chins like Johnson, but Kessler is not such a fighter.

Dawson still makes some youthful mistakes, but this would be one of Kesslers toughest fights. The others would be Hopkins due to his smartness, and difficult style - and of course Calzaghe. On home soil I think that Kessler will beat Calzaghe - he can't be that bad twice - but JC is always difficult to fight. For anyone.
