I don't deny he was considered the best of a rather weak era.

Corrales and Casamayor had a better back and forth though, I don't think Castillo cemented his legacy that well, he existed in a very weak era for the LW division and when he moved outside of it to test himself otherwise he was promptly destroyed. He was an okay champ but that era was weaker than this one cmon. Not nearly as competitive and not as many of the top players faced each other as this one. Most people don't regard Castillo as that great a fighter. He's no Duran or Joe Gans.

It's safe to say Mathweather never faced a guy like Loma and Loma never faced a giy like Mayweather. It would have been a great fight. Both are or were technically brilliant.

Mayweather is an all time great. I dont seem him quitting. The fight would have been something to behold for a boxing purist. It would have been very technical though but not the Rockem sockem robot fight many casuals prefer.

If that was a weak era, I don’t know what you’d call it today.

Pretty weak too but with a lot more talent coming through and unifications thankfully so it's very competitive. Well Castillo didn't unify anyway, weird that. Castillo's best wins at 135 were against guys who had their best runs at 130 too who didn't do nearly as well at 135. Listen I'm not saying Castillo is a bum but he was hardly an atg or hofer.

That was actually a great era. You had Chico JLC and Casa all of which were at one point top 10 P4P fighters you had solid guys like Frietas as well and Juan Diaz came around to and others as well. I honestly don't think you know what you're talking about here. Those guys are much better than the guys at 135 now with the lone exception being Loma. JLC is probably the best LW of his era, you couldn't be more off base when it comes to him or that era of Lightweights, I suggest you go back and do your research. How many JLC fights did you see?

Even the guys like Stevie, Dorin, Spadafora, Gatti, and Manfredy were something to watch.

JLC's career consists of more than his 2 fights with PBF.

Exactly! That division was very deep back then arguably the best in boxing then.

I watched a good few, but those guys fought at 130 mostly with the exception of JLC. JLC didn't go near Juan Diaz or Freitas either hence why I'm hesitant to label him the absolute best of them either. Casa and Corrales were very good but they had their best runs at 130 as I said. JLC never beat the best versions of them. It was a decent era but they didn't unify enough, the champs avoided each other for years and when JLC finally went to unify he lost. Hence why he isn't so great in my eyes.

These guys didn't mix it up enough was my point, good fighters in it but not enough of them fighting each other.
