I am interested in what everybody thinks of this. Would it changed things very much, if we resorted to LPR rules as the rules for determining the world heavyweight champion. Now, obviously there does have to be some changes, such as small MMA style gloves need to be allowed, and i suppose in the interests of safety, there might need to be a referree being allowed to stop a fight when a fighter isnt responding, so that the 30 second rule isnt abused. But what would an LPR tournament gather any interest whatsoever? and could it produce exciting fights. For mine, i tend to think the fights would not be exciting. but what does everyone else think. And would it result in an advantage to bigger or smaller fighters
The ref waiving off a fight like that would be considered intereference during the golden age of the prize ring. A prizefighter's second alone was there to quit for him. The ref acting that way would have been removed from the theater and new one would be selected. Those rules were used at a time when men were sporting. Today you have the institutionalization of more small-minded and low-thinking people figuring out how to subvert the spirit of sportsmanship for the sake of victory like a Mayweather, which is actually what helped send the prizering into decline and disappearance [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYxoCwLiUbs[/ame] www.youtube.com/eslubin
It is LPR rules with modern advancemnts. Much like todays boxing compares with that from the early queensbury rules i suppose. Obviously strict adherance to LPR rules would not be allowed today.
Don't see any particular need for the gloves. In fact, it was their very absence which gave LPR its unique, body-punching character, with the participants having to be very sparing and precise indeed with headshots lest they break their hands.
I'm not 100% on these rules, correct me if I'm wrong, from what I remember a round ends when 1 fighter is down and he allowed 1miniute to get back up, and its a fight to the finnish/quit pretty much Can you use different parts of the hands, ie where the palm meets the wrist, what about eye gauging, using chops when hooking, backhanding, elbowing Generally you will get some very tentative boxing as pacing yourself is key
