Baer wouldn't be in the top 200 today if he was brought into modern times exactly as he was when he was fighting. As Seamus mentioned, nobody would know who he was. He probably would have his license pulled by the state commission after being stopped repeatedly in four round fights. He was competitive with the untrained fighters of his era like Galento and Carnera, but he would not be competitive fighting trained boxers.

No the comment you were repling too was involving me mentioning that Louis had a better defense than AJ has.

Louis was getting hurt by light heavyweights and cruisers. He’s never been hit by skilled guys who are 240 pounds of all power punching muscle. I really wouldn’t give him much of a chance

Two murderous right hand punchers ... really whoever lands first here ..

I don't see Baer doing too well vs AJ or Fury ..

If Fury can be hurt and knocked around by a cruiserweight bum, a focused Baer would beat him to a pulp.

Let us be honest, this is a strong era.

If you want a belt, you have to fight Fury or Joshua, or persuade one of them to drop a belt, because you're not that important.

How well, would Baer do in such an era?

Let's say that he would have to want it!

The heavies of yesterday were not very good tbf. Baer and Louis were outboxed by little light heavy Max Schmeling. Louis was KO'd by him even and Baer needed his power to bail him out. Schmeling would've been annihilated by somebody like Wilder and Chisora'd by Fury.

Max definitely had the the ability to become undisputed during this era, but just like during his own time I don’t think he’d be able to handle prosperity, so I don’t see him being undisputed champ for very long.

Like most of the brightest stars, Max burned out the quickest. How long was Mike Tyson at his best? Max Baer was no different.

The difference between following the history of a sport and actually knowing the sport is on the display in this thread.
