Would Mayweather be as effective without his reach advantage?

Floyd beat perhaps the fighter with the largest reach advantage the light welter world has ever seen in Diego Corrales... His speed and accuracy and defense are what make him so effective.

Would Tyson have been as good without a right arm?

Would Ali have been as good with one leg 4 inches shorter than the other?

Would Hagler have been as good if he was blind?

Would Hopkins have been as good if he was a racist pig? Oh hang on.

The point being, I don't get it.

Chico had short arms for his height. He was an inside fighter more than anything.

Only once in my life did I ever see Diego use his reach advantage......and that was his 2nd fight with Casamayor, the only time out of the 3 fights with him Diego beat Casa.

.......Diego only had a reach on paper, because except for that fight with Casa, he never fought off his jab using that reach advantage.
Diego liked getting in close and using his hooks.

The point being is that when you ffought Diego Corrales, his reach advantage was irrelevant, because he was'nt going to use it.

Floyd is popularly known to potshots his opponents... His reach advantage is very helpful and effective in performing these potshotting sessions...

Ummm, mayweather is hardly a "ranged fighter". He mixes it up depending on his opponent and circumstances, but he's just as happy to fight off the ropes, or in the pocket.

PW would be a great fight a great fight BUT i think floyd is just to smart in the ring.......one thing that i kno would happen is that Floyd will fight on the inside against PW....and Floyd is great at infighting....now i do believe if PW was a bigger name brought big money this fight would happen as would many fights if they brought big money.....yea its sad thats how Floyd does buisiness but i think he holds true to the formula big money equals floyd wanting the fight.

Dont get me wrong though PW would be a HELL OF A FIGHT...HELL OF A FIGHT!

When Williams was fighting as a welterweight, I was of the thinking that it was a 50/50 fight......

.....the way Williams offense broke Winky's defense changed my mind on the matter however.

Winky's shell type defense is hard to break, and Williams arsenal just went right through Winky's guard.

The thing with Williams is that he can also fight on the inside, he throws nice little uppercuts on the inside while varying the intensity of his punches.

If Floyd got on the inside, Williams can hang right in there.......the problem I feel for Floyd is that he's not a workrate type of fighter, and when you fight on the inside, you have to stay busy......he does'nt stay busy against Williams and Williams is just going to score all night long with the jab.

At 147 lbs I'd have favored Williams 60/40.....
......where this fight can be made now is at 154 lbs, Williams would knock Mayweather out there, just too big.
At 154 I'd say Williams would do to Mayweather, what Mayweather did to JMM. Just too many physical advantages for Williams.

Maybe they can fight at a catchweight of 150 lbs, so that Williams can do what Mayweather did to JMM and say the hell with it, I'm weighing in comfortable at 154 lbs!
    Payback would be a ***** would'nt it?:yep

Wright was never really hurt in that fight though, and he was far far from the Winky Wright of old. He was also a fighter that always looked bad against very busy fighters.

It's also a **** poor fight to judge his chances against Floyd since Floyd is absolutely nothing like Winky defensively. Not saying that it isn't a tough fight to call, in some respects, but Floyd and Wright are worlds apart. Williams hasn't fought anyone like Floyd, and vice versa. That's why it's an interesting fight.

Void strategically planned to have long arms for his height. Void has the judges, refs, commentators, venue, arms, all in his pocket.

    Void is void.

Offensively they're differently, but in Wright, Williams proved he can break down a tight defense.

......thats my point, you cant play it too defensive against a fighter with the physical characteristics of Paul Williams.......you have to stay busy against Williams and apply the pressure......certainly thats not Mayweather's forte.......just a bad style matchup for Mayweather if you ask me.

I'm giving Pavlik a better shot at beating Williams than I would Mayweather.

Just watch Arreola vs Klitscho. Arreola could never get inside.
    This answer your question.

Yes, most definitely. Floyd has many weapons in his arsenal and reach is only one of them. His reach is only icing on the cake. If you took away his other weapons, say speed, timing, ring smarts, then he wouldn't be as effective.
