Would Mayweather have beaten DLH fighting the style he did against Mosley?

Mayweather fought DHL cautiously, far too cautious for my liking. Although he wasnt sprining in and out the way he did Corralles, it was still a pretty much outside fight for floyd.

Mosley on the other hand he adopted his high guard and was much more flat footed. He was happy to stand toe to toe with Mosley and out muscle him, picking him off with hard counters. This is how I would have preffered him to fight DLH.

Do you think he would have gotten knocked out?

Oscar's size advantage was a big factor in the fight

He didn't exactly stand toe-to-toe with Mosley imo, but yes, he fought Oscar far too cautiously and should have been more offensive-minded. It would have been harder for him to do it than the Mosley fight, because Oscar actually has an effective jab and throws more compact punches than Shane in general, so Oscar is harder to counter. However, he would have beaten Oscar to the punch for the most part and probably won more definitively.

Of course, he would have been knocked out if he had stayed in front of DLH.

Yup. It would have looked similar to Pac-DLH. Not quite the same, but similar in the playout. An aged fighter losing his dimensions and physical capabilities versus dynamic and physically prime aggression.

DOn't think so. I give Oscar more credit than that.

Oscar had a significant weight and height advantage to Floyd.

Oscar also has a jab and better punching form, so you can't punk him as easily.

What's overlooked is that Oscar is real good at parrying, catching, or block punches with his gloves, so he could catch a lot of Floyd's one punch at a time potshots. Oscar's special skill made Floyd's offense less effective than usual.

Floyd had to set up Oscar real well by checking and using combos to get in a good shot. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:

PBF would have beaten ODLH with any style or tactics he chose to adopt. Had he been more aggressive he would have stopped Oscar.

    Cheers.
It would have been nice to see how Floyd would have handled Oscars 'flurries' in the middle of the ring with Floyds high guard (something he uses most against southpaws esp Judah). We only saw him do Ndou style rolls back and forth on the ropes every time DHL came in to attack.
    oh well..........

On that particular night, Mayweather looked sluggish and lethargic...he didn't look his usual sharp self (part of the credit may go to DLH for that). Even if he had adopted a different gameplan, not sure he would have landed a lot more in terms of clean shots.

I was actually thinking the same thing. I was very impressed at how well Oscar was parrying Floyd's jab early on

It was too dangerous to stand toe to toe with Oscar, he had too much of a size advantage.

Lest we forget, those fights were at 2 different weights. And Oscar's jab gave PBF some problems before Oscar abandoned it.

He fought a smart fight. This was his first fight at 154 and he was fighting one of the top guys of that class. Could Floyd had got KO? Yes he could of. This is why he fought the way he did. He probably would of fought a different fight if it was at 147 or a catch weight.

Its funny how people love to ***** about Floyd "supposedly dragging Hatton up from his best weight" but if Floyd had lost, he wouldn't have been given that excuse. Nobody hardly ever mentions that the fight was his first and and last 154, and that he should've got a UD.

Unlike Mosley, Oscar can actually jab with authority.

I love how the *****s all bring up the weightclass excuse for Floyd but when someone says Floyd brought Hatton and JMM up to Welterweight, they're like "nah man that was all skills"

    what a load of bullsh!t

weight might have given Floyd a hard time, like it did to Hatton and Marquez, but don't forget Oscar has been a part-time fighter since the Mosley rematch.
