Would Miguel Cotto be better off if he faced Andre Berto instead of Yuri Foreman?

He likely would be better served by facing Berto. But I wouldn't just throw Cotto in the ring with Berto next, he may need a confidence builder first. I think Foreman will beat Cotto and Berto probably would as well.

Fighting Berto would be career suicide for Cotto. If Pacquiao was landing at will whenever he wanted to imagine what a younger, faster, quicker, and more powerful Berto would do.

Berto would be a nightmare for Cotto right now. Berto's handspeed and power would be the last thing Cotto needs after his run of fights with Pacquaio, Margarito, and Clottey. Berto doens't seem to have the best of chins but Cotto isn't a big one punch kind of hitter. Berto would land more and Cotto would get broken down and stopped against Berto.

Berto does offer more name value then Foreman and losing to Berto wouldn't be as damaging as losing to Foreman would. But Cotto should beat Foreman but I think he gets brutalized by Berto. I think Cotto should try to rematch Mosley or land a fight with Mayweather if he beats Foreman. Pacquaio and Margarito rematches should be avoided as well as a fight with Berto. He's been softened up a bit with his run of grueling fights and facing one of those guys will get him knocked out.

I think this is a very winnable fight for Cotto; Berto's dangerous but Collazo showed me that he is beatable and he lacks big fight experience. I personally think Mosley would have beaten Berto but I also think that Cotto has an excellent chance of doing the same in a very competitive fight.

Hmmm if Cotto can break down Berto with bodyshots like he did to Judah then maybe he could win but the safest bet now would be to fight Berto rather than Foreman even if beating Foreman would get him a title at a higher weight we don't even know how he'll do and it's too risky for him. Berto is not Aaron Pryor but he can stop Cotto with volume.

I agree I would rather see him fight Berto than Yuri.

It amazing how far a fighter can fall on ESB with a loss to the proclaimed "Fighter of the Decade" and as many of his fans would tell you top 5 ATG. Granted I will agree that after seeing Cotto's loses to Pac and to Margo his invincibility has left and there are things to worry about when he gets in the ring, but I strongly believe he is still good enough to beat most top ten ranked WW's and blow Foreman out of the water. I mean we are talking about a 29 year old guy with two losses. And please spare me the margo took alot out of him quotes. He came back from that and beat Clottey. He has a questionable loss to Margo and was in with a better fighter in Pac (provided Pac is/was clean) The Clottey fight was a close tough fight like expected. It would have likely been more decisive without the cut. Cotto is not only a brawler, but he showed he can box. The guy has a decent amount in tank. He would beat Berto behind a jab and body work. I mean please don't tell me many of you think Collazo has a better chance in a rematch than Cotto would against Berto.

I feel the same exact way. Boxing has proved to become a very unforgiving sport. You lose once to a good/great fighter and you're written off like a bad mortgage. Cotto IMO still has some great fights/performances left in his tank. I personally think there are better fights to be had at 147 even if a victory over Yuri Foreman is attainable.

So I personally would love to see him in there against Andre Berto but I wanted to see if my opinion is shared by others.
