We talk about heavyweight s such as Dempsey, Louis, Rocky etc, being too small in the present day, but what about Tyson, against the modern giants?
Could he compete with the giants of now, or even clear the field as back in his day.??

No. He was used to being the smaller man in his own era anyways.

A thirty pound weight advantage and a serious height and reach advantage is always going to be difficult to overcome. It helps that he would always be faster than his opponent, which I think is key if you are significantly smaller.

Overall, guys like Lewis, Vitali and Fury are going to be very difficult for him. The height difference is ten inches in some of these cases, the reach difference a foot. That is absolutely enormous.

You can see Tyson overcoming such disadvantages in the first round of his fight with Lewis, which he won swarming and dipping, but it's notable that he got absolutely blasted with two uppercuts in that round also. I think Mike's results against very big fighters would be mixed, because he's not tricking or trapping, he's forcing mistakes with attacks of his own.

I think he’d still be dangerous. But he most certainly would suffer at least a few points losses if not stoppage losses against most of the big heavyweights from Bowe to the present giants. But if he got one in trouble then he’d be all over them. He’d be one of the top heavyweights but far from the dominant force he was from 87 to 89.

I agree he ‘could’ beat these guys. But it wouldn’t be that easy. Mike didn’t have too many problems with mobile heavyweights or big heavyweights. He usually had problems with big mobile heavyweights. I just don’t think he’d be undefeated for too long at the top level. Certainly he’d be in with a chance of beating anyone.

Of course he would, he'd even chin some of them. He'd also take losses to some as well.

Once again, bigger does not mean better.
While a good big man beats a good little man, je HAS to be a good big man (Like Lewis, Like Bowe, and possibly Vitali) but please......
We all know Tyson has trouble with tall rangy fighter, with great jabs, power and sheer strength to keep mike at bay.
Wilder wasn't any of that except for power....only if he knew how to use it.
AJ got his behind whooped by 63% KO ration Ruiz, who never have beaten anybody before They somehow put him in the ranks, and ran for his life in the second fight....You tell me a peak Mike Tyson couldn't do better?
As for fury, well...while people believe he would be a stern test for any fighter due to his size, i think he is a very talented outside fighter with no real power and average strength, a low level Muhammad ali or Larry Holmes, which means the Likes of Mike Tyson and Joe Fraizer, who would get inside and beat him up to a pulp, are horrible matchups for him! (although i believe Fury himself would be a bad matchup for the likes of Foreman)

His speed and power in his prime would crush most if not all of these big stiffs today

1980's Mike could slip and slide thru punches. No matter the height and weight. yes the taller fighter fighters pushed him but eventually he persevered. A boxer with long arms, a good chin and the ability to keep him at a distance would be fair game. i wonder how Holmes with those arms extended and jab would have fared in his youth. Holy is the only one to push him back.... Ok lennox-----but that was just a disaster after the first round

Swat I think. He doesn't lose to the first big man he meets but the more he goes on, against the more skilled of the big guys, the harder it gets for him.

Size does matter to an extent but prime Tyson had such an awesome mix of speed and power that I believe it would balance things out and allow him to be competitive with anyone in any era.

We have a guy right now in Uysk that I believe is a special fighter and one that could potentially beat Joshua and Fury which would be a nice reminder that skill matters just as much if not more than physical gifts. Hopefully we will get to see him fight Joshua later this summer and prove that.

Marciano's the only one of those who could be viewed as perhaps "too small" to beat the 'giants'.
Dempsey, Louis and Tyson already beat giants.

He'd have a tougher go of it today.

The taller, longer guys he faced during his prime, who weren't even that great, gave him more trouble, Bonecrusher, Tucker, Douglas... even Mitch Green.
