Would modern Deontay Wilder be too small for the 80s/90s HW divison?

Wilder could carry 235 pounds perfectly in fact he did during his career(229 or 230),the problem is that he does not need doing it to be effective, lewis was ponderous like **** at 245. Look at him at 227 vs ruddock,he was fast, explosive, powerful and great, at 245 he had extra weight

Maybe they are preparing us for a thread about modern day duckers?

Absolutely not. People say the HW scene was bad under Wlad. Consider that it's largely the SAME GUYS in the top positions as under Wlad except that they're years older. Pulev, Povetkin, Charr etc. "Big Fatty" Miller, the same guy that got schooled by a beyond-ancient Cro Cop, is a top guy. Tyson Fury, is irrelevant. AJ the champion was a whisker away from being destroyed by ancient Wlad.

Face it, the HW scene sucks mightily right now, and being a top dog in this mess isn't exactly something to write home about.

Wilder has largely fought the biggest collection of bums and stiffs since ... well, probably since William Bezerra 'ruled' the Brazilian LHW scene with an iron fist.
Wilder could have fought Klitschko except he didn't. He did get destroyed in sparring by Wlad, however. Wilder could have fought Povetkin except he didn't.
Converted footballer Washington gave Wilder a boxing lesson. Duhaupas who is "ok" gave Wilder all he could handle. Then we have "Scuba" Scott who casts a rather dark shadow over even the wins over bums. The guys he did face usually are featherfists that beat him up before falling prey to his huge power.

He beat Ortiz, yes. Even though Ortiz is straight off the Ark, I'll give Wilder credit for beating what is a dangerous boxer-puncher, and weathering a few hairy moments to get the win. But that's ONE win. It convinces me that Wilder is better than I thought he was, it doesn't convince me that he's an actual champion worth talking about.

Wilder clearly is effective in this environment and within the niche he has carved out for himself. So was Bezerra. It doesn't change the fact that most of his fights were against barrel-scrapings, that he'd get outboxed by some of these low tier guys, and that the HW scene right now is god-awful.

    Exactly.
Wilder was ripped to the **** at 216. He could carry 230 and have a lower body fat than most of this fighters:

    Lewis
    Morrison
    Bowe
    Bruno
    Ruddock
    Tyson
    Holmes
    McCall
    Rahman
    Golota
    Briggs
    Tucker
    Grant

WILDER IS NOT SMALLER THAN MOST OF THEM! HE IS BIGGER! Cut that crap Wilder beeing small at 216! Its utter bull****!!

It is why i laugh when some people say "lewis was 20 pounds bigger than foreman" BULLSHI7!! Anybody can add weight training in a gym, if you take in count that lewis trained weights to built his 245 pounds and foreman weighed even 232 without touching a weight and was a little shorter it is a total joke..Physical Peak lewis weighed 227 pounds.
And the real weight of morrison was 211 like he did in his early career, he had skinny legs and he was on roids he was just a little bigger than holyfield naturally.the 227 pounds of morrison are fake.bruno was a muscular guy but if you see him closely you realize that his frame was not that big because he weighed 228 for tyson1 and he was packed of muscle... Foreman and peak lewis did not have this mass and still weighed the same

All of the above, for sure; especially, a need for a new definition of “most feared”.

Weight alone does not equate to size...

This talk about "he had a big frame so it makes up or lack of weight" is utter bull****. If you weigh 216 lbs then you weigh 216 lbs. It doesn't matter if you're 6'7" or 6'2". If anything, Wilder is even more disadvantaged because his frame has weaker muscle on it than a shorter stockier fighter who had to train to get to that weight.

That's why in powerlifting you don't normally see guys that are skinny as hell competing in the lighter weight classes. Everyone is stocky and short for the weight.

Frame just seems like a convenient goal post mover.
Fury thinks that Wlad is a meek 200lb fighter naturally.

But weight classes and matchups aren't determined by this level of nuance.
It's determined by weight. They can't disqualify Wilder from fighting at CW because he has a big frame.

I agree with your overall premise to an extent. But I don't think it constitutes as a quick hand wave for the phenomenon that is Wilder fighting at less-than-SHW weight levels.

James Toney didn't grow his frame when he became a 250lb boxer.
Yet he stood toe to toe with Peters for 24 rounds.
Could he have done that as a 160lb fighter? He'd have the same frame.

So was Foremans weight transformation during his comeback superfluous?
He's a monster in strength and power too, and had a really strong frame.

    So why the cheeseburgers?

Toney? Ok how many guys more did it? The exception to the rule

How did he go from drawing with Sanderline Williams at 160lb, to standing toe to toe with Sam Peters at 250lb? Peters has a huge frame compared to Toney, and could hit really hard.

Jack Johnson got knocked out by a LHW, but then went hammers and tongs with a 250lb giant power puncher at 225lb. Same frame.

    Why did Foreman add weight?
Surely he isn't a class below Wilder in frame, power, and strength?

    Here is Louis at 216lb:
    http://static.boxrec.com/thumb/4/4a...28834.jpg/275px-Louis-Walcott_II_BE028834.jpg

    Shredded.
Yet, he is often dismissed as being too small for modern HWs.
Yet here you see him shredded at the same weight as Wilder was for Ortiz.

Seems like some double standards are at play, at the expense of past fighters.
