Would modern Deontay Wilder be too small for the 80s/90s HW divison?

    Foreman added weight because he was over 40 and his metablism changed and he had huge appetite it was all

    So his weight gain made no difference to his ability to succeed?
    You're saying it was indeed superfluous, and he would've done generally the same had he weighed 220lb?

    So a really strong talented fighter like Foreman can gain 20-30lb, having a presence of roundness swallow his physique, and still be great?

    What about all the weight lifting he did for his comeback?
    Pointless? Lifting doesn't change your frame...

    Yeah he did because he wad old, retired for 10 years and getting strong again would give him confidence . anyway wilder is no foreman

    Wilder is a freakin' giant. That said, if he were active against elite heavies in the 90's (or even today) he starts racking up some defeats. He has two decent wins on his resume, only one by KO. Let's not get over our skis.

    Not old enough to not win a strap against the fleet of revolutionary skilled SHWs.
    Yeah, everyone has excuses to want to eat more, its natural.

    But boxers are supposed to be disciplined on diet and physique and fitness.
    And making a comeback against elite dangerous HWs seems like a really bad time to go on a burger binge.

    Wilder is no Foreman, yet he can be at the top of the HW division weighing less than him...

    A giant? In what alternate weight classification system?

    He's 16 pounds from being a CW.
    He's the same weight as Louis was for Walcott II.

    Was Paul Williams a giant for a WW?
    Or was he just tall?

    Sure, in your opinion he racks up defeats.
    But in reality he is doing more than well for himself in todays division.
    A division in which countless people, including you and many others, said had changed forever in terms of weight dynamics.

    It seems that the people who were biggest size proponents, are being dismissive of a modern fighter who challenges those notions.

    I remember reading threads titled "There will never be a sub 220lb HW champion again."
    With those disagreeing being looked at with pity as wishful classicists.

    You're playing willfully stupid.

    A) Deontay is a giant at 6 foot 7 with an 83" wingspan. He is a fit and ripped Tyson Fury.

    B) He has one and a half good wins and otherwise has feasted on the likes of washed up fighters, never was fighters and blatant tomato cans. Above all, he has yet to prove himself the best heavy in a watered down transition period for the division. Don't get too excited.

    Transformation? He simply was fat and had the tendency to build up fat easily. Beside that he was in his 40s. I´ve heard he was trying to sweat down alot of weight, but that will make the body loose water, not so much fat.
    Do you think he got fat with a strategy?

    They're literally nothing alike besides their height.
    Fury weighs 60+lb more than Wilder rn.
    They have completely different styles.

    Has the "weight" argument shifted to a "height" argument all of a sudden?
    This place should hire professional goal post movers.

    I'm asking you, the proponents of the revolutionary skilled SHW.
    For the last 5 years I've heard people refer to his weight transformation as a leading reason for his successful comeback.

    Are you saying that the Foreman who went the distance with LHW Peralta and the Foreman who beat Michael Moorer are no better or worse off size wise?

    Usually "weight" goes hand in hand with "size" and all the good things associated with that. In Wilder's case we have a guy with great size who doesn't weigh a lot. He's got a freaky build for a HW, what can I say. Unless you feel that having a massive reach advantage over other fighters is of no consequence, goalposts have not been moved.

    Edit: I remember Wlad literally holding Chagaev at arm's length on the top of his head to keep him on the outside. Size and reach do that for you. And Chaggy was 6'1 and not that small.
