Would more film have helped or hurt Dempsey?

    I remember when this was posted previously a lot of people here judged Tate as one of the worst fighters they'd seen !

    Of course not. I gave my reason for placing Tyson no higher than 8 On my ATG list. I've also heard Tyson say Ali was the greatest. Pick a day, he will say something ( Like most people, 25 yrs in law enforcement, Have heard it all) a little different.

    I think that any additional film would have helped Dempsey.

    You have the paradox with all fighters pre 1930, that the quality of the film improves, as the fighter gets worse.

    Hence the footage that showcases their nuances best, ends up being when they were past their prime.

    You also have the paradox that you have a very incomplete portfolio of what they could do.

    Imagine all of the details that we would miss if we only had half a dozen Joe Louis fights, and the only ones with decent quality were shot during his comeback.
