Would Napoles beat Duran and/or Whitaker at 140lbs?

I can conceivably envision Mantequilla beating Duran by decision, provided he doesn't get caught with a punch/too many punches that cause him to bleed and eventually "melt". If that happened, Duran wins either by UD or possibly late round TKO.

I definitely envision him topping Whitaker. Unlike Duran, Pernell doesn't have that punch that can turn the tide of a fight. The best Pea can hope for is that he outdefenses Napoles. But, then again, how can he be more slippery than butter?

Duran - Rose from The Dead..when tommy almost tore-off his Head... For God's sakes he even KO'd a horse of course that was MR ED..enough can't be Said..as Mikey s Lying in Bed..I wish this chick would give me some H..D! Actually roberto was the baddest mini warrior of them all..1980 montreal duran would be a great fight for robinson..in my humble opinion.. DRMULLEN.

You're insinuating that Napoles was better defensively than Whitaker?

He could potentially beat or lose to both, he certainly brings allot for both to worry about and both would be great fights.

This match up just reminds me how underrated Napoles is, arguably a top 10 ATG, a natural LW who was a dominant WW, arguably more accomplised at WW than these 2 other natural LWs, Whitaker and Duran.

    Don't you love catchy punchlines?

Defensively they're about equal, and the only way I see Pea winning is by executing a flawless defensive strategy and hope somehow he wins on points. Which is possible, but not likely. Napoles, besides having excellent defense as well, also has KO power. Given this, I think Jose has a bit more going for him.

There's no way any ref of recent years wouldn't stop Napoles/Duran in favor of Duran.

Watch Duran working Pazienza with his laces/head when he's well past 40 and how badly he could cut a guy. Napoles suffered as much as any fighter ever has from soft skin, I see no way it'd hold up over 15 with Duran.

They're not equal defensively. That is just flat out untrue. As slick as Napoles could be, he left himself open and susceptible to clean shots a fair deal more often than Whitaker.

Otherwise, I agree, both would pose real problems for the other. Napoles has the skill-set to give Whitaker issues dealing with a similarly slick and skilled technician, while Napoles has someone he can't control the pace against as he normally would. Napoles has the better offense overall, while Whitaker has the better defense and jab, and his skills off the backfoot and in close-range would make it a very interesting affair skill-wise. 50/50.

Hard to say, maybe the high quality movement of Napoles is the one thing that may cause a problem for Whittaker, if that doesnt win it for Napoles it will be hard to say what will, as Whitaaker has dealt with so many stylistic threats thoroughly. ut that in and out and other good variation of movement means gettin shots off and not getting countered potentially. Whittaker also may win this as he is just so great a boxer its hard to say, his upper body movement means he dodges shots that you dont really envision being dodged. Very hard to decide.

i honestly think jose has a chance to beat both of them but it hink against Duran he would lose on cuts but if he didnt have cuts i honestly think he would win but it would be close. Im not sure with sweet pea i think he would beat him but it would be a stinker of a fight

First of all, these would be really great fights. Napoles would have a chance against both Roberto and Pea. But in all honesty, I have to say that the greater chances are that he would lose to both of them. Of course, we are talking prime at 140.

But again, great fights. And everyone has a chance.

Why would it be a stinker? Why not provide some form of analysis?
