Would Norton do to Big Cat Williams what he did to Bobick?

Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by swagdelfadeel, Apr 21, 2020.

Would Williams go the same way as Bobick in a match up against Norton?

  1. No. Norton is not doing what a prime Liston couldn't do.

    86.7%
  2. Yes, despite Williams never facing a KO loss in the 1st round, Norton will change that.

    13.3%

The following was posted in a Norton vs Williams thread.
This is NOT a thread asking who would win. It's simply asking would Williams go the same way as Bobick did against Norton in the 1st round. In other words, would Norton with all two of his first round KOs, do to Williams what none of his opponents including a prime Liston, managed to do and KO The Big Cat in the 1st round?

@Woller Care to explain how Norton is going to accomplish what multiple well respected power punchers failed to do?

@choklab I'm still waiting for an explanation on how Mr. Norton with his multiple first round KOS (all 2 of them!) is going to accomplish this.

I don’t think predicting first round knockouts is ever really that logical. But I think Williams goes the same way as Bobick, in that he gets knocked out. Might take longer, but I think It is a matter of time before Ken lowers the boom Because There is a strong theme of it happening to Williams in real life. I think Ken would qualify as one of the best alongside the ones Williams faced in real life. And we know what happened there don’t we?

But you voted for Williams getting KOd in the first round as my poll specifically states.
If I were you, I think I'd avoid themes, specifically the ones involving Norton.
    Yes because Norton=Liston.

I really don’t think Cleveland Williams’ chin was THAT bad

 I don't think anyone does except a certain poster with an agenda against anything Liston/Foreman related.

Any early kayo in this match up is more likely to come from The Cat, isn't it, rather than Kenny? Neither had Chuvalo's chin but if you believe what is said about Williams, he carries the bigger artillery here. Norton points for me or late stoppage when the body work takes its toll.

I was thinking the exact same thing Eddie! Williams is much more likely to score the first round KO than vice versa but I made the decision to refrain from posting it because it's lack of relevance.

Don't let 'lack of relevance' stop you posting something, Swag. If we all adhered to that criterion, there wouldn't be anything here to see. Mark Ant might need to find something else to do, that's for sure!

I think that the Big Cat is likely to score a first round knockout too over Duane Bobick, Williams before he was shot had a lot of power behind his dukes, he broke Liston's nose in their 1959 bout

Usually when a knockout of a top grade man happens there is usually high caliber evidence within the form of the winner supporting the likelihood of that outcome. When Joe Louis knocked out Max Schmeling he had enough previous form supporting the chances of producing that kind of result. Tyson knocking out Spinks. Shavers knocking out Norton. So on and so forth.

which of Williams previous knockout wins support the likelihood of him even beating a guy like Norton? Let alone knocking him out in one freaking round!

please list big cats signature one round knockout win.

I don't think that Williams had better chin than Norton at all and Ken was far better defensive fighter. I don't expect early KO, anything is possible but I think that Norton would win this.

I think that it would be a good fight, Ken Norton had good power, a very unorthodox defense, and a decent chin. Cleveland Big Cat Williams had so a decent chin, fair defense, and had good power in his fists. Both had been kayoed by dynamite punchers, Ken by George Foreman and Cleveland by Sonny Liston. This is before Williams was shot in late 1964 by a Texas State Trooper. I think that that version takes out Norton but I do not think it would be early. I think the Big Cat prevails in round 7, much the same way that Williams kayoed Ernie Terrell in 1962. Williams may take very hard right hands but weathers the storm for the win.
