Duran was in his wilderness years when he fought Laing, he was as fat as a pig, never trained & had no direction, it was Arum that picked up the thread knowing Duran needed a motivational fight 2 get the best out ov him hence Cuavas getting KO'd in 4 & Moore butchered in 8 :smoke Ayala beating a in-shape & motivated Duran is ludicrous, Duran had way way 2 much ring savvy for a brawler like ayala & it would have been a systematic beat down with Ayala being stopped around 10/11:yep Ayala said as much himself that he'd have 2 KO Duran in 5/6 or he'd lose on points:yep The same goes 4 Hearns who allways brought his A game when it mattered, i know ayala was a young up & comer & a massive crowd pleaser but he'd never been exposed 2 the higher echelon & if lou duva was selling 2nd hand cars he'd have yer believing any ford is actually a Rolls Royce:nut anybody remember Jonny Bumphus:good
Never mind that smartass JT. We know the reason Tony gets the shaft but his personal faults have nothing to do with the impact he makes on opponents. Tyson had his faults too being a serial buttocks fondler, and all that. he just couldnt be what the media tried to make him out to be. I think Jack Dempsey said it best when he said in an old interview "when someone brings up skill and finesse, take it with a grain of salt" Eastside members dont think about the effects of being struck by another fighter such as Tony or Cuevas or Lloyd Honeyghan. They just think that SOMEHOW, it will be shrugged off and the the more skillfull fighter will go on to win These "experts" can't see past their own bias. With the experts in the press, it didnt matter to them if you pointed out Frazier's own limitations as a fighter; one handed, short, slow on his feet, easy to hit, no jab, etc., they would always ignore that and he would go on and dismantle whoever. The fact is they put too much faith in their man and dismissed what the other man can do or what he might be able to do with Joe. And the same is true of many forum members here, these wanna be experts citing a lack of skills when in reality its their own lack of skill that's the problem. It's all comes down to personal bias. Look at Pipino Cuevas as the longest standing champion between Hearns (1 year), Leonard (7 months, 1 year, 4 months), Benitez (11 months) Ironic that the least regarded in terms of skill, turned out as the longest reigning champion. Tyson, tho unskilled was highly regarded, but he got the job done with a quick knockout. He only had two defensive moves-some head movement to the side and holding his gloves high. Other than that tho, his best defense was his offense. Again with Honeyghan, he totally negated the superior skills of Cobra Curry just by catching him clean and by quickly following up, he didnt give him time to recover and took him out of his game.
I can't believe you're actually comparing Johnny Bumphus with Ayala, associating the two because of their manager/trainer. Two completely different fighters. Bumphus was a toothless southpaw backed by the media and that was it. He was lucky to even git a title and afterwards, had the media defending him with "let's win the title and look good the next time" But there wasnt a next time, was there? because someone came along lacking in skills but not backbone. He gave Bump city no rest and cleaned his clock. Tony on the other hand was a different matter. Who was fat pudgy Duran to get in his way? Duran's a lightweight, i've always said that. So how is he going to pummel and eventually knoock out the much stronger man? It doesnt even make sense what you're saying. I knew immediately what the posters here thought of Tony and had it confimred when one of them said "Tony was just a rugged bully with a porky build". Some even confuse him with being another Vargas. It wouldnt surprise me they would even favor Fernando to take him down. Also, Lou managed several world class fighters and champions, among them Rocky Lockridge, Czyz, Holyfield, Tayor, Whitaker.
:rofl I'd take you to absolute pieces here but you and i both know, at the end of a long day, you're just a troll But a farking funny one that draws in the uninitiated, gets in the more experienced for debating practice (or easy self esteem building), and whom loves reading praise for SRL, his fave closet hero. :good
