To be fair, 73 & 76 Frazier were kind of the "old version"

Foreman who put the fear of God into Bert Cooper and made him run back to his dressing room after 2 rounds would also be all wrong for Frazer.
Foreman had 3 versions of himself. The second variation was still all wrong for Joe. Even Mike Tyson knew 4Man was still too dangerous for that particular style.

Which Frazier are you talking about? FOTC Frazier or afterward?

There is no possible scenario or time frame in which George Foreman is not a horrible stylistic matchup for Joe Frazier, and where Joe doesn't take some punishment against him. And IMO old Foreman had some assets. But I agree that he didn't have the speed and couldn't throw the combinations in his dotage that he did in his youth. My .02, probably worth that much, if old Foreman doesn't take him out very quickly, if it goes past two rounds, my money is on Frazier.

That's why I tried to clarify the terms of the discussion as to which Joe Frazier we're talking about here. Old Foreman vs. old Frazier, I'd pick George. My choice of Frazier in my first post was based on Frazier being somewhat close to peak.

FOTC Frazier is IMO more competitive against any version of Foreman, young or old, but the stylistic issues remain plus part of what made FOTC Frazier FOTC Frazier is the animus he felt against Ali and what he felt he had to prove, which wouldn't have been there with Foreman.

I agree with every word here. Old Foreman vs '76 and maybe even '73 Frazier Foreman is the favorite. FOTC Frazier beats old Foreman, and puts up a much better fight against peak Foreman.

That’s the beauty of the thread.

It’s taking the two versions of Joe that actually engaged George and placing those versions into a position for perhaps a better shot at beating the old Coot, lol.

I would say when things came to push and shove, metaphorically speaking, even old George still did resort to the old literal push and shove to get ‘em off and/or put them in range.

Older Foreman may have actually been worse for Frazier than young Foreman. Older Foreman was far sturdier and could sit in the pocket and not use energy, but still had the same long arm tactics, "push offs", after landing, and a better cross guard. There's no version of Foreman Frazier would have a chance against.

70's Foreman didn't have speed either. But 80's Foreman could still let his hands go. More importantly he had the jab , timing and brute strength to push Joe back into range for a jab uppercut right hand combo.
Foreman used the timing to beat Joe.
80's version was smarter tougher and harder hitting.

Prime Frazier would beat the **** out of old Foreman. Old Frazier I’m not so sure. Probably gets hurt and stopped in the later rounds as George won’t need to go looking for him and Frazier is pretty one dimensional in terms of style and pace.
