would Pacquiao have gotten more credit if he had let Oscar get into the fight?

Only haters wont give him the credit he deserves...Letting DIAZ or DLH into the fight would only invite more criticism such as "Pac gets hit easily!", "Pac almost got KO'd!","Pac is still 1-dimentional!", "Pac got schooled!", "X got robbed!".....etc.

it's pretty much the same names who doesn't give pac much credit. to most fans, pac did get a lot of credit. the evidence is, he might be a big favorite now if a hatton fight is to be made and he has good odds now of beating floyd if this fight is set.

to the topic, i believe that these people might give pac more credit if he did won those fights in a war but boxbox is right with the haters. perfect fight or not, there would still be tons of EXCUSES coming from them.

I've given up defending his achievements against those people who underrate it or even totally disregard it.

I dont need the aggravation. And in the end, theyre also just a single fan, like you and me, who's got a personal opinion.

I just dont care what they think anymore. What I'm sure is, that Pacquiao's legacy and legend status is already cemented in his own Philippine islands.

No boxing expert, boxing pundit, boxing historian can ever take that away from him.

no, De La Hoya was coming off a win with Forbes, a SD loss to Mayweather, and TKO win over Mayorga, plus he has a great chin

Jones was coming off a win with Tito, Anthony Hanshaw (?), Prince Badi Adajumu (dont even no how to spell that kids name), not to mention the man has a glass jaw

dominating that version of De La Hoya, is completely different from dominating that version of Jones......why do people keep comparing it?, nobody said De La Hoya was shot before the fight there were saying he was gonna KO Pac

but everyone knew Jones was shot, and knew Calzaghe would win, and the ones who thought Jones would win were the fans who thought he was gonna fight like "the old Roy" because they new the "current Roy" was shot to shards

and as far as the weight drain situation goes, we all knew he was gonna be weight drained, we all knew it was almost a decade since he fought at 147, so why use that as an excuse?

no excuses here, the man was a heavy favorite, who got whooped

 

manny definitely deserves credit for his win over oscar. the general public had oscar as the favorite due to his size alone even tho he was past his prime, but had solid performances vs. very good-p4p fighters not too long ago. it was a bad style matchup as well. manny is truly a beast and a great and also goes to show how great juan manuel marquez truly is as well. that oscar didn't perform like he did in the past, oh well tough luck money can't buy you everything. manny was beating him in every department yo it was supposed to be at least a close fight!

 

There is only one problem with this statement and the fact is we have alot of proof showing that Jones was shot leading up to this fight. The 2 knock outs a couple years earlier, beating a Trinidad that was fighting at a bloated weight class and just going to a decision in a fight where he just looked average. The fight before that where he went to a decision to a guy he would've destroyed back in his hayday, so unfortunately I have nothing against Calzaghe, but the truth of the matter Pac's win over Oscar and Calzaghe's win over Jones are not similar in anyway.

I will add this though, had he slowed down Pac would still get the same critism as evidence of the Calzagh/ Hopkins fight. He didn't get the credit he deserved when he beat hopkins due to it being a very close fight against an old man, alot of people or at least I think they should give Calzaghe alot more credit for his win on Hopkins now that Hopkins destroyed Kelly Pavlik. (I just think haters won't give Calzaghe credit for that win at this point).

 

Interesting thread. I was thinking about making a post earlier along similar lines, except not specific to the Pac fight. A competitive entertaining fight can sometimes do a lot more for a fighter than a total blasting/lopsided affair.

 

Yes, I agree, but if the man keep mowing people down it really makes it so much more exciting, look at Tyson.

 

He actually did try to let him get into the fight. If you watch the last couple of rounds he was clearly try to carry him. He only did it for a few rounds though cause it was so obvious that he realized that he was imbarrassing DLH very baldly. So he stepped it up in the last round and DLH obliged by taking the opportunity to get out of the fight.

 

Really damn didn't notice I will have to rewatch, all i remember was a beatdown for 8 rounds.
