Though I am confident that Pacquiao would win by unanimous decision, some definite good would come of it. 1. Pacquiao would be exposed as a cherry picker. Mosley would be months removed from a dramatic loss, and he looked terrible in his last fight. Mosley to Team Pacquiao is like free dessert to a fat kid, irresistible. While most boxing fans know that Manny has carefully selected his recent opposition, casual fans do not. Fresh off the heels of the Mayweather fight, I believe that casual fans will finally say, "Didn't Mayweather just destroy this guy?" :huh 2. Mosley would get a final(?) chance to shine. While we all hated the Mora fight, it was nice to see Shane mix it up with Mayweather. Round 2 was damned impressive for Shane and I was glad to see him get a moment or two in the sun. Although I believe that Pacquiao will win, I also think that Shane would make a nice showing for himself. He's never been knocked out, and I truly doubt that Manny would stop him. As a future Hall of Fame fighter, I would like to see him go out on a high note. 3. Pacquiao's lack of defensive ability would be exposed. Anyone that has ever laced them up knows that Pacquiao's defense sucks. If Clottey can get to Pac, Mosley will touch him as well. I believe that a decent showing by Mosley would show casual boxing fans some of Pac's limitations. 4. Pacquiao would be forced to evolve. Pacquiao has fought with (essentially) the same game plan for his past few fights. Mosley will not stand there and wait to get hit like Pac's recent opponents, and Pac will have to adapt and learn some new tricks. This would make for a more exciting fight, and a better match up with Mayweather. 5. Casual fans would watch. Big PPV. Big money. Big weekend. Pacquiao would stay active and get another win making his eventual loss to Mayweather Jr. that much better. 6. Shane will stop fighting. He'll make a ton of money, and he'll finally have had the two fights that he's said he wanted most. He can hang them up with pride and a fat bank account after this one. Thoughts?
:think So all that despite all that Pac "stuff", you think this is a legitimate fight? Real question, curios... Any fighter Pac takes that doesn't have PBF as initials, he's going to called out no matter what. :deal
No way is it legitimate. But it's what we've got. If Pac were the warrior that some here claim he is, he'd... a) take the damned tests and fight Mayweather b) give JMM a 3rd fight c) face Berto d) all of the above But he isn't, so this is what we've got. This content is protected
I think it would be like the Mayweather fight. Competitive for the first few rounds, and then Mosley would accept his fate and take the Unanimous Decision loss.
You can't have too much sympathy for Mosley, the guy is putting his name out there so whatever happens (should the fight happen) Mosley should take the majority of the blame. I have no problem with Manny for taking the big money fight either. However like the Margarito fight, whatever happens people say this will further his legacy by x amount. For me Manny hasn't improved his legacy since the Cotto fight. Clottey, Margarito and Mosley do nothing for him I feel, and have shown they do nothing for him. At least both guys will get a lot of money they deserve it, even though Arum will get the biggest cut.
Maybe if the Shane Mosley from the Vargas or Collazo fights was around today, but this current one? Can't see it.
I would love mosley to get a decent payday. But this fight is a tuneup. He does have that lucky punch though.
Manny has fought so many warriors toe 2 toe. The Clottey fight was not as easy as ppl say Clottey been in with the best and 100% of the time is in every fight never been stopped. If anybody deserves a break its Manny this will be more of an Event vs Mosley than a resume type of fight. Agree w/ what u said about Mosley of old compared 2 today. He has a shot but probably more like a 15% chance or less.
Agree wholeheartedly. I don't know if Manny can survive if Mosley hits him with that round 2 punch that he hit Floyd with. Manny has a chin sure, but he has also been knocked out... twice! It would be interesting if Mosley won. Floyd would say that Manny was never fit to challenge him, and Shane would demand a rematch with Floyd. However Mayweather would likely fight Manny first and all the haters would say that Floyd waited until Manny was shot, and that he was somehow ducking Shane... again. :-(
IMO, no. It's acceptable as there is no other meaningful fight for Pac after Money May, except Martinez fight, which Team Pac are understandably distancing themselves from. Given the cirumstances, it is justifiable given the incentives behind it are greater than any other fight available.
He'll take a beating like margarito did and if his trainer is smart then they would stop the fight rather than let their fighter get beat.
