If they rematched today, would there be a different outcome?

I think Joyce is busted, and Parker is still improving. Also, Joyce is nearly 40. Could and should very well end differently.

Parker possibly stops him in a rematch. Joyce's concrete chin has been cracked.

Hard to say until we see Joyce return. Parker's form recently is brilliant but Joyce left no question marks in a convincing win against Parker only 18 months ago.

No. Joyce is all wrong for Parker.

Parker doesn't hit hard enough to put a dent in Joyce, doesn't have the movement to avoid him and Joyce's stamina is much better than Parker's as well.

Parker went in with the wrong fight plan and played into Joyce's hands - with the right fight plan, he cruises to a UD.

I don't think it will. Zhang could have won the fight if he had any gas tank beyond 3 rnds. Zhang just did not throw punches. Joyce can throw punches for 12 rnds.

Wilder and Zhang are nothing like Joyce, they never threw many punches and could be made to hesitate to throw, Joyce just comes right at you and unless Joyce is shot after his wins over Zhang he likely repeats the performance in the first fight and wins. Though I think Parker this time goes the distance but again is simply out worked. In the end styles makes fights and Joyce is all wrong for Parker.

    Three thoughts:

    1. Styles do make fights, otherwise Zhang would have beaten Parker

    2. Joyce is getting old and Zhang might have cracked his chin.

    3. Parker seems to have improved and he was actually sick for the first fight, which IMHO certainly didn't make the difference but won't have helped.

I think Parker might just get it done considering points 2 & 3, but wouldn't be confident at all.

I will add that Parker was also not in good physical shape for the Joyce fight he was far too heavy at 255lbs. The strategy was to come in heavy I guess but that's always a dumb strategy for a smaller fighter to do against bigger opponents, it just takes away your advantages rather than mitigate his opponents strengths. A leaner, faster, more agile 240-245lbs Parker would be sharper in there and not gas out as early, which is why I think Parker can go the distance 2nd time round.

No I was at that one and Parker through the kitchen sink at him.

Joyce took it all and beat him down.

It's just a bad style match up for him.

It really depends on a couple of factors:

    1. How much Joyce has left? He’s nearly 40 and his chin had been cracked by the very heavy handed Zhang. If he’s still nearly as durable as he was before those fights I don’t see Parker being blue to even hurt him.

    2. What weight Parker comes in at. I think a lighter Parker would be able to avoid more punishment and take Joyce the distance. As soon as this happens I think he stands a good shot of a points win.

    3. Is this just a bad style for Parker? Joyce is a pressure fighter and I think this was ultimately Parker’s undoing. Joyce kept coming and Joe started to run out of stem from the relentless punishment he was taking. He’s improved since then but I sit more in the camp of Joyce is a bad style for him. He’s an easy target for megapunchers like AJ, Wilder, and Zhang but Parker does not have that power.

I’ve voted for no but given how brutally Joyce was stopped by Zhang I could very well see Parker beating him on points. However I think it’s hard to say this would be a certainty given the way Joyce stopped Parker.

    I picked Joyce to KO Parker in their 1st fight;

Despite that, if they rematched now, Parker would win, because Joyce’s chin is completely done

Parker was landing some flush shots on Joyce’s chin, he would be able to do the same, but this time they would have an effect

There’s a reason why Joyce is dropping his level all the way down to Kash Ali for his comeback fight: he’s finished at the top level. Zhang took away the one asset that allowed him to compete with the big boys of the division

Unless Joyce has seriously eroded after the two losses to Zhang he should beat Parker again.

Styles make fights Wilder and Zhang whilst being big punchers haven't got a high workrate and throw single punches, Joyce can throw up to 80 punches a round and has an above average chin. So that's always going to be a bit of a problem for Parker who has mediocre power and likes to fight a tactical fight.

Just to put it into context Joyce threw 844 punches vs Parker, compared to Wilder who only threw 204 and Zhang only threw 273.

So Joyce fighting 1 less round overall, and even with Zhang and Wilder's output combined Joyce still threw more than twice as many.
