Reading a New York Post article where he says he'd like to fight at heavyweight before he ends his career. Give the state of the HW division :rofl, what are his chances?
He might give it a shot who knows I think he could beat some of the crappy guys but lets stay out of that area for now Kelly
Imagine how jacked he would be, simply his frame can't support it. He is exciting though because he seems like a guy who could succesfully even make it to cruiserweight. I could even seeing him winning titles from 160 to 200 but he's no HW.
I would expect him to change his mind as he starts going up. I would be surprised if he ever goes over LHW.
For Pavlik to even consider testing his rangy punches -- not only at a higher weight class that brings with it new power requirements, a reassessment of chin and an ostensible degradation of both reflex and speed -- but at the ultimate, preeminent climes of Dempsy, Louis, Foreman and Ali, he better be damn sure the early successes he's had haven't simply gone to his head. Jake Lamotta once said he'd whup Joe Louis if only he had bigger hands, and he meant it. Crazy Jake. Those fists would have had to been the size of catchers mitts because Jake's style had its limitations even among the elite in his own weight class. Before you start beefing yourself up with the assumption of power to travel, consider your last fight up a weight class against a newly motivated Jermaine Taylor. That fight went the distance and it was a pretty good scrap. No one got rocked like in the first -- and it could be Jermaine just got smarter and meaner, but just as likely is that your power subdued just a little; the same first at the same speed behind the same momentum crashing into a bigger, sturdier frame. That's one weight class? What about 3? 4? Stay a while, young man.
I don't know. 6'2 and a half with long reach. It really depends how he puts the weight on. Lots of fighters tend to get top heavy when going up the ranks rather than building core strength, one thing you would say about Pavlik's training methods is that he is very focused on core strength. It really depends where he puts the weight for me and if he can increase his power and chin as he goes up, unlike most Middleweights, he does have the height and reach to be effective at MW
Look at guy's like RJJ and Toney who have had success but they never get to the TOP HW's. Lennox Lewis would have MURDERED Roy. W. Klitscko would slaughter KP. And I'm a huge and loyal Pavlik fan:yep If all goes well? Somewhere done the line? Yeah KP might beat a marginal HW. But I cant realistically take much from it. Same for RJJ and Toney. Though honestly? Toney's style translates the best to HW. Conditioning is always his achilles heel.
No. If Taylor can put him on ***** street in round two and almost KO him, imagine what Wlad and Sam and Shannon and Vitali and Lamon and Andrew and all those lads would do to him. And no, no matter how he puts on the weight, that chin (which isn't bad for a middlewt) will not fare well at the marquee division.
Sheer insanity. Pavlik's just trying to get some attention with these crazy comments. Truthfully, he's have to have a death wish to want to seriously fight at HW.
It's worth a shot IMO. He is like 6'3 and he is weight draining himself to make 160lbs and can crack pretty damn hard. If he gained up to like 210lbs perhaps his chin holds up more and maybe he has a shot at grinding C or B level heavyweights down. Oh wait all the heavyweights are C and B level lol, other than Wlad.
