There is no real reason to believe some hype would be bigger if you are honest. Really, what makes you think it would be bigger anyway? Not to mention boxing was more popular then and on FREE on tv often. Hbo could hype it as much as they'd like, but it would not be close to the biggest fight.

just because of the course of floyd & cotto's career
espn would be all over it

the hype to see pbf fight again would be tremendous and the fact that peope actually think cotto could beat pbf would be a motor to hype this fight

plus its in yankee stadium the first major even which means cheap seats so more people could attend

if cotto never lost it would have been 0 vs 0

    peurto rico vs black

and peurto rico's favorite son (cotto)

the hype would have been tip top

No way it would've matched the hype for Ali-Foreman, or Ali-Frazier. It wouldn't surpass Leonard-Hearns or Leonard-Duran either. Hell, I don't think it would get more hype than Mayweather-De La Hoya.

was hoping common sense from a floyd fan would pop up.

And this isn't to say it would be big, but the comparisons are ridiculous..

    'Fraid not.

Put a decent undercard on your Cotto /Mayweather fight.

    Say, Pacman/Hatton, Pavlik/Abraham, Calzaghe/Dawson, Vitali/Haye and Wlad/ Arreolae

It still wouldn't match the hype of FOTC.

    Complete nonsense.

At that level of the sport and with the $$$$ invoved, balls has nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Was this thread first written before Cotto got smashed by Margarito? I think Margarito ko'ing Cotto again will make a bigger fight as Marg is considered by everyone as a monster welterweight. Cotto beating a Hoya that little Pac beat does nothing for his reputation.

Hell no ..PPv wise it would have done around 800k ..No one is out buying Cotto's fans outside the luxary boxes ..It would have been the biggest fight of the month but ever nah never that .

yall just cant see the bigger picture

i was obviosuly exagerating with those comparisons to other fights

but it would have definitely been teh biggest fight of the past 30 years

    p4p #1 vs p4p#2
whose careers were on crash courses
