I think Pirog would have beat GGG head to head but I don't necessarily think he would ha e been a better fighter overall, had the better career, or the better legacy.

Dunno, but it's a fight I'd have loved to see.

Fun fact...the original plan was for that to be GGG's U.S. premier and Pirog's welcome back after the previous HBO management team blackballed him, with the winner receiving the push. The fight was signed.

Unfortunately, that's when the career ending back injury happened. Pirog got replaced by Proksa, and the rest is history.

It's one of the biggest "what if" fights of the 2000's that we were actually on track to see

The official scorecards in Jacobs-Pirog were not good scorecards. Jacobs was the GBP/Haymon house fighter, after all. Pirog's chances of a fair shake in a competitive bout were nil.

Jacobs was receiving something of a schooling moreso than being categorically outclassed. But it was still quite early doors when the fight ended. Had Jacobs' chin lasted into the deeper waters, outclassing may not have been too big a word for what ensued. I see Jacobs' fortunes declining as the fight progressed through the mid-late rounds rather than improving.

The real shame is that GBP and HBO were so tight at that point in time that the network never brought Pirog up or mentioned him after that fight until they changed management.

You'd think the guy earned a push here after that performance, but they sent him right back to Siberia instead. He willingly dropped his belt to take the Golovkin fight the minute they offered it to him when the new team decided to give him another shot.

    What a stupid comment.

That's like saying GGG couldn't take out Jacobs but Pirog did.

Pirog beat a Green Jacobs who just lost his grandmother and didn't want the fight, was wanting to mourn. On top of that he had cancer but didn't know it yet. Today's Jacobs is the real Jacobs. My guess is Golovkin would win by late stoppage. Look at GGG'S fight with Ishida and look at Pirogs fight with Ishida , and you tell me who you would favor. For me, the GGG hype was real, he chewed up contender after contender, Then when he faced the the dangerous elite, he still passed the tests, maybe not always by KO but still won. That includes Canelo and Jacobs, the Derevyanchenko fight was extremely close, but GGG was almost 38 with a new trainer.

Pirogs best wins are over a cancer ridden and green Jacobs, Ishida , and former jr middleweight contender Jantuah. He was a very good fighter but no one to derail GGG. Ishida which the haters call a bum and one of GGGS easiest and least accomplished challengers lasted 3 rounds, and I don't see Jantuah lasting very long with GGG either, basically any time GGG would want to stop him he could. Yet both went 12 rounds with Pirog. So to say Pirog would derail GGG is a huge stretch even for GGG haters.

    Says who? You?

    The official scores for Canelo Jacobs were 116-112 & 115-113 x2 .

The official scores for GGG Jacobs were 114-113 & 115-112 x2.

So Canelo had a +8 margin vs Jacobs while GGG only had a +7 margin vs Jacobs. And that's with a knockdown which was a 10-8 4th round on all 3 cards. So outside of the knockdown for GGG, Canelo won several more rounds vs Jacobs than GGG did according to the judges. I also thought that the judges gifted Jacobs a couple of the later rounds for digging down deep and coming back marginally in the later rounds. The late rounds that Jacobs won were not clear Jacobs rounds, they were basically toss up rounds whereas most of the rounds Canelo won were clear Canelo rounds where he was dominating Jacobs. Vs GGG, Jacobs wasn't getting dominated round after round and outclassed like he was vs Canelo.

I’d favor pirog. Look at what Jacobs did to GGG. Pirog would win decisively

Using this logic makes no sense at all. Sure Pirog didn't KO him but he handily won that fight.
Lemieux smoked Stevens in 3 rounds... Took Golovkin 8. Is Lemieux better than GGG?
Jose Cotto had Canelo nearly out on his feet, Golovkin never did. Does Jose hit harder than GGG?
Angulo took out Rosado in 2 ... took GGG 7 rounds and that was well after Angulo KO'd him. Is Angulo better than GGG?

What if GGG couldn't KO Pirog? Since 2009 Golovkin has had only 4 fights go the distance: Canelo twice, Derevyanchenko and Jacobs. He didn't dominate any of those fights and some people have him losing at least half of those fights. Officially he is 2-1-1.

And if you read carefully, you'll see that I didn't say derail GGG, I said derail the hype of him being this murderous puncher which he had until Jacobs took everything GGG had... and since you want to degrade a "green" Jacobs, I'd also remind you that going into the GGG fight, Jacobs was referred to as very chinny, but the mighty GGG couldn't stop him. Why is that?
