Ruiz was a joke, so probably.

I doubt it. He might pull off a close one rounder decision but no way he schools him like RJJ did. Calzaghe just didn't have that in him

Yes. Jones fought Ruiz because he was the weakest paper titleist available at HW. He could have fought the real HW champion Lennox Lewis who called him out saying he "wanted to take the S of his chest" but he saw easy money and bragging rights in facing Ruiz instead.

Ruiz was quite slow. Calzaghe would have boxed circles around him.

No. Back then Jones was ridiculously fast and elusive as well as being a supremely skilled boxer. But one of the keys to the fight was that despite the size difference, Jones had the power to keep Ruiz honest which stopped Ruiz from coming forward at will and allowed Jones to dictate the distance, pace and tempo where his superior boxing skills won the day. Calzaghe on the other hand was slower, less skilled, not hard to find and couldn't punch, Riuz would walk straight through Calzaghe's slaps and stop him within 2 or 3 rounds. Total mismatch.

Got to disagree with that, I don't think ruiz could touch prime Joe over 12 rounds, at any time.
Lacy couldn't, Ruiz, who was a sloth like creature when he faced RJJ never had the tools to cut off prime Joe.

it's not a troll thread, but you're doing what bailey does - you're trying to make calzaghe look better than he was by giving him fantasy wins over like-minded opponents, when the elephant in the room is that calzaghe never fought a prime Hopkins or jones (but had years to do it if he thought he was good enough).

this is my last post, real life calls. cheers for the debate :good

Ruiz is just too big and strong for Calzaghe. You can be more skilled and much faster, but when you don't have the power to at least give a bigger man something to think about, then you reach a cut off point where size will triumph. Ruiz would barely notice Calzaghe's best shots, let alone be deterred by them and would catch up with him pretty quickly and KO him.

    Easy money?

If it was that easy then why weren't other guys from the lower weights queuing up to fight Ruiz?

It's mute point anyway, Calzaghe was reluctant to take on tough challenges in and around his own weight class, so I don't think him going to heavyweight would be very likely:lol:.

Honestly, if you think Calzaghe beats Ruiz then YDKSAB.

Ah yes the obligatory "if you don't agree with my opinion YDKSAB" comment.

If you want to pretend Ruiz was some sort of fearsome boogeyman, have at it.

Ruiz wasn't a fearsome boogeyman - as a heavyweight. He would however be the Grim Reaper for an average sized SMW/LHW who is not especially elusive, susceptible to right hands and has little power.

They have weight categories for a reason, I'm sure even Calzaghe himself would admit that he couldn't beat Ruiz.
