its was scheduled to happen in late 89 but tyson pulled. i think ruddock would of done it as tyson wasn't training properly.

he would of been a better champion than buster but it would not be that great an upset and sensation

I dont think that Buster was the only contemporary fighter who could have taken Tyson in Tokyo but ironicaly I think that Ruddock would have.

I think that Tyson could have lasted the distance and taken the decision.

    No promises of course.

Tyson was getting tagged more in 89,but he would have stopped him earlier then when they met

I doubt Razor Ruddock would have beaten Tyson in 1989.

Ruddock was nearly beaten by a 36 year old James Smith, who hadn't won a fight since late 1986. Ruddock was still unpolished at this point, and wouldn't become a serious threat until a year later, when he had put on some serious muscle mass, and dusted Michael Dokes. Granted, Tyson would lose focus and lose to Douglas in the meantime, but he still managed to recooperate and beat a better version of Razor in 1991, than the one who had originally challenged him in 1989. I have considered the fact that after Tyson lost to Douglas, team Tyson brought aboard trainer Rich Giachetti, which revived much of his game. But nevertheless, a late 80's Ruddock was as ill-polished as Tyson was without Rooney.

    Tyson by late stoppage.....

No , Tyson was better in 1989. He looked bad against Bruno, but his one round knockout of Carl Williams was one of his best performances.

probably not. ruddock would try to bang with tyson like he did in 91' and get beat. remember douglas outboxed tyson to beat him.

    I don't think so.
Ruddock had already started to become the one-dimensional puncher he was against Tyson in '91, and you needed more than a big left hook/uppercut hybrid and size to beat Tyson.

Of course at the time Tyson was accused of ducking Ruddock, and I'm glad they did fight in the end or we would have heard how Ruddock would have taken Tyson had they fought...you know how people are.

Nope. I'd say Tyson by late stoppage.

you are right. but you never know. greg page knocked tyson out in training before the douglas fight

carl williams had a similar style to douglas with more height and he got flattened in 1.

even though he was nowhere near the same fighter after june 1988, Tyson was still very hard to beat and still had great speed and power

douglas was even lucky to pull through against a badly out of shape tyson. his style was suited to beat tyson at that time but if that punch had of landed earlier in the round, history would probably have been different
