That right hand Arguello hit Pryor with in the 13th round? Would that punch eventually land on Hatton's leaky defense and could Arguello have been a 4 division champion today? Personally I think Hatton would have been seriously hurt if not stopped by that punch. Hatton has a good chin at 140 but Arguello was a murderous puncher. Arguello UD or TKO John Arguello TKO JMM Arguello KO Hatton The Pacman fight is a tossup but I think Arguello would eek out a decision, it is the smooth boxers he had trouble with and Pac is in your face the whold fight
no, and this is from a huge hatton fan. that right hand was the single most technically perfect right hand i seen thrown or landed. ever. not the hardest but wow...pryor is in my top 20 based a great on this fight. his chin should never be questioned (way more impressive to me than lamotta's) and only he and a handful around that weight ever could take that shot. love ya ricky, i'd drink to your health if you ever face arguello
On the Tszyu fight night yes he could, and would keep walking forward. Any other time, its canvas time. He would get up, but would be stopped not long after.
Good post but I disagree with his chin being way more impressive than LaMotta's. Chin's couldn't get way more impressive than that. Jake couldn't be hurt in his prime and even when he was past it and took that unholy beating against Robinson he was still on his feet and kept eating punch after punch but yes Pryor's chin was maybe the best 140 lbs has ever seen. I still think Hearns would have stopped him at 147 though.
It is Arguello's left hook counter than would spell a disaster for Ricky, not particularly the right hand. We all know how susceptible Hatton is to a hooker, and Arguello would utilize his left hook to always catch incoming opponents. It would be a matter of time before Hatton would hit the deck, and in both a 12 round fight and a 15 round fight, Arguello becomes a 4 weight world champion. Pryor was a special talent.
If Hatton had taken his diet seriously, he could have been a four weight champ as well, minus Warren's stupid matchmaking.
130 may have been a bit tight, even as a kid. British kids tend to fill out much younger, I am the same now as I was when I was 16. He could make 135 now though, beyond question.
I believe Hatton would make it tough for Arguello, because Arguello was not great on the inside, he looked very akward when crowded. Arguello did his best work when he had room to punch and time to measure you for the 1 2. However i still think Arguello would stop Hatton once Hatton tired and he gave Arguello some time and space, probably on a body shot.
