Would Riddick Bowe Break Down Norton..?

Takes Norton out for me. Bowe had an unorthodox style as well and I don't think Kenny could take that heat...

I'm afraid so. Foreman did a number on him and Bowe is close to that style, believe it or not. Like Tyson, Bowe tried to take people out.. he wasn't one for a long drawn out brawl.. even though Golota took him there.. but Bowe was supposed to wipe him out, like all the pundits predicted. But Golota came out snapping his jab and floating like a butterfly.. what up with that? That was a strange night.. full moon and everything else.

I believe Bowe would triumph over Norton, think he would be able to absorb Nortons right, and pay him back with hard hurtful combos, to both head and body, but thinking it would not be early ala Foreman, he looked like he didn't think he could beat George, and fought accordingly, Bowe is less intimidating than 72/3 Foreman, so can see the fight going into the middle rounds before Nortons is broken down, poss a TKO as opposed to a clean KO maybe.

You think Bowe is less intimidating? A much bigger man whose crazy was apparent for all to see. I don't think Kenny would have relished the thought of fighting this loose cannon, particularly after he realises its not an act, its grade a bombs away unhinged trench warfare...

George was intimidating for his time, no dispute, but Kenny is facing a whole different can of whup ass here...

Bowe kos Norton 3 or less.

 

I got Bowe by KO. I can’t figure it out totally Ken had a weakness against big strong powerful guys though he himself was big strong and powerful for his era.

 

Probably wouldn’t need to break him down, he likely takes him out early-mid rounds at most.

That uppercut is there for Bowe, and as soon as he lands it, that’s the beginning of the end.

 

I think Bowe would be a nightmare for Norton. Mid-rounds stoppage for Riddick.

 

I hate to say it, but probably. I can’t see Norton outboxing Riddick Bowe for a full evening without getting into trouble at some point.

For what it's worth, I do think Foreman was more intimidating than Bowe, maybe because of generations, believe my matey when I tell you that the Foreman from the win over Frazier, up until he climbed through the ropes in Kinshasa, was looked upon by the fight fraternity as a invincible, living breathing monster, the way he manhandled Norton and Frazier was truly frightening, we thought he would rule the division for years and years, with double figure defences, when the Ali fight was signed, the boxing world collectively shook their heads, oh no, we sighed, that's it , the end of Ali, and we were thinking of his life, not his career, I haven't checked their stats, but I didn't think that Bowe was " a much bigger man " but I like and trust you, so will take your word for it.

If you took something like ten percent off Bowe's physicality-power, resilience-I would maybe give Norton a decent chance. But every exchange, Bowe's going to take it better and give it more damagingly. If it doesn't add up fast...it'll just add up eventually, doesn't matter the round. Bowe shows up poor, Kenny shows up Ali-level-motivated...might be a real dogfight, but I still see it only going one way regardless. Bowe is just inside that level of power. Doesn't have much to spare.

 

Its always worth hearing from you Mike!! Yeah, Foreman was considered a monster before Ali whupped him. I think Bowe was slightly taller but maybe 235/240lb compared to Young George at maybe 217? And he was not a gym muscles guy, he was just a big man. I hear what you are saying about the intimidation factor. Some fighters have it, Foreman, Tyson, Liston, Louis, and others dont and perhaps have to work commensurately harder for their wins because of this. Norton would have been about an inch shorter than Bowe and anything from 14 to 28 lb lighter, and I doubt he'd have been in with anyone as calculatedly unorthodox as Bowe, or a big man with such handspeed or strong inside game. If he wasn't intimidated before going in the ring I think he would be after the first stanza. But. Kenny was an ex marine I think and I doubt any man intimidated him, I'm sure he genuinely thought he could beat George, so I kinda feel the same, his 'survival' tactics probably never came into play until he realised the size of the task he had undertaken against George, and I'm sure he'd have the same opinion that he'd beat Big Bowe, until reality whacked him in the face!!

For me Bowe is an anomaly. He is a fighter who on his greatest unicorn 100/100 night, 100% his best for 100% of a fight is a H2H nightmare for anyone, but his brief, incandescent prime makes Tyson's look like an epoch. But we can always look back IN wonder AND wonder...
