Would Bowe be advised to give Wilder a swerve, if they were fighting in the same era, do you believe?
A little like the Lennox Lewis situation maybe..?

Riddick Bowe as talented as he was, did not have all of his marbles in the right place, he slipped off of his cracker. Deontay Wilder, whom I refer to as the Bad Penney, he just will not go away. Both guys need to appear on The Dr. Phil Show.

Good morning,Fergy. More than likely Bowe's manager,Rock Newman would have stopped Riddick from taking the fight just like he did with his boy fighting Lennox. Then claiming later on that Wilder's camp were to blame.

No sane boxing advisor would recommend going into the ring with Wilder unless it's for the belt or to cash out a dying career.

There is a reason why the likes of Quarry or Ali are praised for their determination to fight and humble the big punchers.

To have killer strikers like Lyle, Foster, Shavers, and Foreman on a single resume is unfathomable for most modern contenders bar Fury who likes them that way.

I don’t know. The reason Bowe was steered clear from Lewis ( I think ) was because Lewis had previously beaten him in the amateurs and looked invincible destroying Ruddock close to the time when they were supposed to meet. If those two components hadn’t existed in Wilder’s case then a meeting would be more likely. It would also depend on what’s on the line

It's my understanding that Newman got too much on his high horse and decided to insult the hell out of Lewis by offering him chump change for the fight. Bowe was a total dunce and went along with the whole, ridiculous farce, unthinkingly following master Rock into throwing his belt in the trash as the ultimate insult (gee, Lewis was probably whine-assing about it all the way to getting a multi-million dollar title for free lol). What reinforces this is how Lewis was offered over $11 million to fight Bowe a couple of years later (when he could have been pretty darn sure of beating him) and turned it down. Bowe still had Newman then, so the whole thing is a continuing mystery...

Bowe says Lewis didn't want to fight him, but I find this whole mess very tricky.

I didn't see any fear in Bowe's eyes when he confronted Lewis after Holy I. None in Lennox's eyes either. And, for the record, I thought that the Olympic fight between them was a far worse stoppage than Weaver-Dokes I. Bowe had been winning, took a couple of very good shots, but was jumping up and down with his hands in the air during the stoppage. Didn't look beaten at all, certainly not semi-conscious.

I could of course be wrong....

As much as I admire Deontay's heart and courage and punch, I think he'd rile up Bowe a couple of times and even knock him down only to find himself once again unable to finsh. Bowe would come back within the next couple of rounds and Gonzalez him.

Think it would be a great fight, who ever won. I'd put money on Wilder by ko, but maybe Bowe can do a Fury??

I think Bowe's people would've been all for that fight TBH. This ain't a Lennox situation.

If the real prospect of a Bowe/Wilder fight came at the point at which Bowe had just won the lineal championship then a Newman duck would have been likely. He'd have rather dragged the championship through the dirt for a few bouts and for the sake of increased income than face a live contender immediately after opening the door on a cash bonanza.

That said, I would have bet on Bowe to dispatch Wilder in short order.

Eh, not a Lennox Lewis situation. Lewis is far better than Wilder. Bowe would likely beat Wilder, but there's always a chance Wilder ices him. Bowe had already lost to Lewis as an amateur once and at best a fight between the two of them could have been considered a toss up. So, Lewis was bigger risk.

That said, Wilder is still dangerous as hell. Unless there's something real on the line, like a big payday, a belt, or becoming a mandatory challenger, why on earth would anyone climb in the ring with him?

This is why I miss some of the older guys. Ali would've signed a fight with Wilder without a second thought. So would have Evander Holyfield. Oh he's real dangerous? That's nice, let's fight. I miss that attitude.

Bowe would have destroyed Wilder. And, it may have been over pretty quickly.
