If Marciano was 215 he would be exactly like Tyson physically without the speed but better endurance and would be throwing endless punches. A true nightmare.

If you include PEDs into modern training methods, I think Marciano could blow up quite a bit above 200 lbs. Toney did, with a smaller frame.

This is very true. Take away steroids and you would have fighters who today we think of as large muscular hwts looking smooth and lanky. This is all overlooked but a reality the past 20-30 years where steroids became a real science in the athletic arena. It's all quite "fake" in many ways. Huge asterisks should be in the record books next to the names of obvious steroid users.

    Marciano relied on his flexibility.

Going heavier would have reduced his flexibility and made him even slower.

Bye bye all of his defence

It was a statement on whether it would have benefitted him, just that it should have been possible.

But to continue the ****ogy; Toney also relied quite a bit on his flexibility, I'd say, and I think it stayed with him just fine at HW.

Nobody is saying the he could not weight even 250 pounds , another thing is that he would have been pure garbage.toney at 217 was much faster than rocky at 185

Yes, but would he tear into training with these methods. I dont think he would. Modern trainers emphasize strength over conditioning. Rocky was a tremendous trainer but he would do less distance running far more strength and weightlifting. Modern thinking says this is the way to go. I am not so sure.

No chance Rocky could make the light hwt limit. He was as trained down as any fighter could be at 187. With steroids he would be 205 easily. However Holyfield without steroids would probably not break that weight.

I think Marciano could have been bigger he just identified with Dempsey's philosophy at fighting at the lowest weight possible while still being destructive.

Some new training methods are good. Particularly with foot speed and athleticism. One thing I notice is the old school didn't learn anything from other sports. I think you can like football for instance. Big football offensive tackles are extremely quick AND huge. The drills they do to develop this quickness can be crossed over to boxing. Boxing in whole depends too much on "talent" Rocky is a testament that even the least talented fighters can be great.

Rocky ate very good so "nutrition" wouldn't play that much of a role.

Today Rocky would clean out LHW, CW, and HW. Just because heavyweights are big doesn't mean better. They are just a bigger target like Galento said.

More or less what I think.

Marciano's stamina was inhuman. The emphasis on fighting light and having great cardio means that you can recover from punches better and carry your power right through the fight. Frankly I'd go with Marciano's philosophy rather than trying to become overly powerful and a glass cannon 'cause you gas after 5 rounds.

Marciano's best asset wasn't his physical attributes, it was his iron will and hunger that drove him to greatness. Most of the very best athletes that dominate for a long time have that fire in their guts.

    There's no substitute for that.

Why would you think he wasn't on steroids? I'd reckon most Soviet and Eastern European athletes were at the time.
