Sanders had pretty good speed and good power. Roy only beat Ruiz because Ruiz is ****ing slow. So no.

No one thought Roy had a glass chin until AFTER dropping the 25 pounds of muscle that ruined his career. Fact of the matter is that if this thread had been made immediately after the Ruiz fight, before the loss to Tarver and all the questions that brought about Roy would be the favorite and all of you know it.

The ONLY reason this thread is 90% Sanders is because of the chin issues after dropping back down to LHW. Otherwise what you've got is a bigger, stronger man going up against a far more skilled, ludicrously faster, smaller man who had just made a good account of himself at the weight. It seems like most people posting here are making this thread with a post Tarver/Johnson Roy Jones when it should be Jones immediately after the Ruiz fight.

Yeah such a shame we had to see him brutally KO'ed at LHW instead of at HW.

You are ****ing kidding right? Either would have torn him a new one.

i think sanders would have knocked him out remember this was before jones' chin was exposed and he may not have been concious of it.

you have made a complete fool of yourself. jones by tko :nut :patsch? that is the most stupid thing i have heard in a long time. jones got ktfo by single shots from lhws. you think with only +18 pounds he could take even one of corrie's punches? even if he blocks the punches he would get rocked. sanders wouldn't be afraid a bit and would totally let his hands go and exchange because he knows roy can't hurt him. corrie has a sturdy chin, he took big shots from rahman and vitali and kept coming back and you think roy would stop him?

Ruiz doesnt stand out in any department (ecept for holding) he is average, his biggest asset is toughness, he weakens his opponents by holding them and has a sneaky right hand. Sanders on the other hand is a bad stylistic matchup for Roy. 1 clean punch and Roy is out and Sanders def had faster hands than Ruiz.

I like Roy and I think he's one of the best to ever lace em up, but I would have favoured Sanders here. Simply because Roy just isn't a HW.

Former jr. middle weight Roys exceptional skills made it possible for him to move up and outbox a legitimate HW in John Ruiz. This was a great feat, but I don't see Roy having continued a successfull career at HW. And Roy saw it the same way.

Corrie Sanders wasn't as successfull as John Ruiz, but I think he was a better fighter. I feel that Sanders always was underrated, and when he actually cared to take a fight seriously he could compete with the best (like when he beat Wlad).

Sanders had fast hands, and one punch KO power in both of them. Much stronger than John Ruiz, and bigger too. Sanders had an iron chin, so Roys punches wouldn't have got his respect (they got Ruiz respect tho). We also know that Roy doesn't have an iron chin, like Toney has for example, so if Sanders prepared well for the fight and landed something big on Roy then... I don't think Roys chin is as bad as some people here on ESB claim it is (I mean everybody can be knocked out and he just got caught with good shots), but I don't see him endure Sanders power.

We're still talking about Roy Jones here, the man could do miracles, so I wouldn't totally count him out, but my money would have been on Corrie Sanders.

this was before Roy ever got KO'd.

i think it had something to do with going to heavyweight to light heavyweight pretty quickly.

considering Jones isn't even a natural heavyweight.

this is the crux of the argument for me.

no, sanders wasn't a better fighter - he was a better puncher.

anyone here realy think jones would have locked horns and fought sanders the way wlad did?

    no way.

sanders will be known for his demolition of wlad similarly to tarver's win over jones. i rate tarver higher than sanders but basically these are two fighters in the right place at the right time.

if vitali had fought sanders that night instead of wlad we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

anyone who thinks that sanders would beat jones because he could punch has forgotten that being elusive is the mark or a great and complete fighter, and essential in this matchup.

sanders would have had 3 rounds or so to land something and jones would have pikced him of from there.

No way Sanders hit too hard. In going against Ruiz, Jones knew he was facing someone who had not KOd an elite Heavyweight and was at a disadvantage in speed and skill.

He would of easily beat Evan Fields at that point-holy was stopped by Toney around the same time. I think if Roy stayed at HW, he might've chose to fight Tyson after Danny Williams beat him.

Jones couldnt have pulled it off in a million ****ing years. It would have taken one punch from Sanders, any punch, to lay RJJ out like a corpse. Sanders if anyone remembers had very fast hands and could catch guys with great shots
