Really, his D was that good that he couldn't be taken to the ground...I thought of him as a pure striker...On that level I wasn't impressed...
There's a lot of wrestlers and grapplers who could'nt take chuck down. Those same guy's COULD take down the finest of boxers so they would'nt have to deal with punches. There is actually no point talking about how any boxer would do in mma until we've actually seen them train and compete in MMA.
Chuck takedown defence is legendary. He was a ******* to takedown and if you did manage it, a ***** to keep down.:yep
If u asked me that question i would say the same thing I (ME) would take Mike to the ground....I'm just starting to accept the thought of of an elite MMA guy beating a boxing HW champ... My noob brain comprehens Fedor beating Tyson but runs in shock and horror at the thought of Lidell beating Tyson...The thought makes me wanna take a shower!!!!!
Just throwing this out there....I would have Loved to see Ernesto Hoost Vs Fedor...Sorry 4 getting off topic!
It all depedns on how well and easily Mike picks up other apsects of MMA. If Mike was able to pick up wrestling and Muay Thai to the point where he could deal with leg kicks and takedowns, then Chuck is left with a serious ****ing problem. :scaredas: If Tyson can't adjust and pick up the other martial arts then Chuck may only need one clinch to end the fight. Stick both fighters in an MMA match, both in their primes and Chuck woudl look for nothing more than that one clinch he needs, then the takedown.
Cool..Might be...Never was a Lidell fan so i didn't watch all that much...I'll check him out some more....The baddest man on the planet was always a boxer...Right now (IMO) it's Fedor followed by a Klitschko...No i'm not talking p4p...lol
MMA is different today than it was when he began his professional career. MMA is more of a sport now. Royce Gracie's first 11 fights were basically fought with the only rules being no biting and no eye gouging. There were no time limits, and no rounds. Royce won 3 out of 4 tournament style UFC championships; winning 3 fights in one night twice, and winning four fights in UFC II. Royce's career under sport mma rules is nothing. I don't think Royce has ever been the best fighter on the planet, because I don't think he has ever been close to being the best fighter in his family. However, his credentials as being a real mma fighter are peerless.
"His credentials as being a real mma fighter are peerless." That's why i created this thread.....If he can't beat Fedor is his all time staus on the same "page"? Example few boxing fans would say Jack Johnson couldn't compete in this generations HW division....Well, let me say, the division sux and JJ would be killed by the Klitscko's and about 20 different fighters from the 90's until today....However, I think a 1970 or so Ali could compete with fighters in this generation.....I'm ready for the flame...I thiink there is one boxer today who would ko Ali and another who retired in 2002 who would do the same... Anyway, why or how have opinions changed about fighters from one decade ago or so in MMA and people swear by boxers that did there thing generations ago.... Um, my opinion the 0-16 2008 Detroit Lions would beat the 14-0 1972 dolphin
That is a complicated argument. There are plenty of fighters I believe Royce would lose to one on one, and yet I have difficulty seeing some of them having the will to survive 3 or 4 bouts in one night. Even though Fedor has never fought one of those old UFC style tournaments, I think he has what it takes to do even more. That is just speculation. I have no proof that he could do it. I have proof that Royce could. Royce won fight after fight, on the same night, and it rarely looked easy. I believe that the first few UFC's to be a different form of competition than today's mma shows. Royce has done little under today's rules, and I don't believe that is just because he was getting older when he tried. Royce Gracie would hardly be competitive today. Gracie JiuJitsu was developed around the idea of a real one on one fight. A fight with no rules, no stand ups, and no time limits. Royce was a great example for this type of fighting, as he showed when he defeated Severn. Today's rules would have probably allowed for a lop sided victory for Severn.
:beat I can just picture wee Gracie being dragged out the cage unconscious in a crimson robe after 2 mins.
