Anyone else revolted at the MGM Arena by the rauckus Spanish cursing during the silent tribute to Frazier before Pac-JMM III ?

 

This is what most people can't seem to grasp when comparing fighters of different eras.. They mistake people's position for " size being everything", without acknowledging that some big men have the whole package.

 

Didn't see the fight John, Infact I haven't even read about this, animals.

 

In the case of Wlad I think it is the ghost of his losses against Sanders, Brewster and Purrity. Sure those where embarrassing stains in Wlads career, but now when he knows what to do he is too big, strong and just too skilled to be walked down easily.

Perhaps Lewis or a prime Tyson could do it. But Frazier??? I cant see it.

I'm just surprised I haven't read a single thread on this.

Being a former NOSTALGIA freak, and owning my grandpas collection of over 2000 B@W fights from the 20s on to the 80s, I used to think that the bigger, guys were the best fighters esp considering I'm the smallest of 4 brothers. @ 6' 1/2" and only 185lbs. My brothers are 6'2 195, 6'3 220, and 6'4 285. So being the little guy always made me like the bigger HWs as opposed to the smallish Sharkey's, Maloney's, Lnagford's etc of yesteryear.

But of course as a kid, born in 74, and gracing the shag cpt of grandads den every weekend watching 8mms fights or live ABC wideworldofsports fights. I was raised on Ali, Foreman, and then finally had my own favorite, the Easton Assassin. But watching those films of guys like Willard or Carnera always excited me, as they would visciously KO the little 170lbr, and I felt like they were invincible.

But as an adult, and watching these fights with my own boys(who hate the old B@W fights), and being a former AM and having sparred some 1000+ rds, I can appreciate the skill and athleticism of the smaller guys. It wasn't until about 97 that I finally accepted that Mike Tyson was the baddest man on the planet.

But anyways, watching old big men like Willard, Carnera, Bugner etc, and knowing now what I didn't know then, I can HONESTLY say that Julius Long would be 150(150)-0 and would be the undisputed GOAT had he competed anytime in history up until the 1960's. Those big guys were absolutely dominant, with ALMOST ZERO......yes, ZERO athleticism, horrid abomination type footwork, and pisspoor balance making Wlad Klitschko look like a gymnast.

I still like the oldtimers, but the sweet science has evolved even moreso than the other major sports like Baseball, Basketball and football.

Think of it in these terms.........Denver Broncos QB, Tim Tebow is about 6'4 240.....just of the top of my head, and he runs a 4.55 40 I'm pretty sure.....if he were to play for the Bears in the 60's we might not know who Dick Butkus was, and when he wasn't drilling opposing QBs 4-5X/game, he'd be rushing for 200yds/game and making Jim Brown look like a chimp.

Aside from Big Mac's steroids, Sosa's corked bats, and Bonds' "clearoids", imagine those three playing for the 20's baseball teams......Johnsons 86 mph heater or Dizzy's 7/3 slurve would be batting practice for those guys.....we'd be talking about 150 homers a year, and .500+ batting averages.

Today's athletes are simply bigger, stronger, and faster. No disrespect to Joe Louis, the Rock, or Jack or Jess, etc etc etc........but even the 46 y/o George Foreman would KO1 about any and all HWs until it was his day to meet Clay. PERIOD!

I live in KY now, but I kept my username and my email from waaaaayyyyy back when there was no highspeed. Back in Chi, when I was on another forum, I was using MSN dialup, and somehow, I was able to get the same username here on ESB that I had at BI back in 01-06

Where in Chi are you at......I'm from Gage/Marquette.....58th and Rockwell and 63rd and Washtenaw. I was expelled my freshman yr from Gage (beating a VL into a bloody pulp and had to go to Argo for 2 yrs until I was expelled from there too for beating 3 LKs half to death....finally, my uncle John Oremus, who was Mayor of Bridgeview at the time pulled some strings with Washington and got me back into CPS at Hubbard.

Right, and its not like Frazier was impervious to being hurt himself, down 10 or 11 times in 37 fights...
