I hate to sound harsh but having ring IQ is proven by achievements in the ring. He barely proved anything to be honest unless he was politically screwed in the sport(Tim Witherspoon is a perfect example) or his personal life overshadowed his ability and general interest. In that case, he's definitely a sad story that needs to be told.

Now regarding sparring, there's no such thing as a "serious session". Sparring is practice, it's not an actual championship fight. You go in there to either try out different maneuvers/tactics and see how it will fare against the opposition(your sparring partner being the imitator) or you warm up by sparring. I have no idea why fans and only fans add sparring session to a fighter's list of achievements.

No its not, spadafora didnt blow the level of opposition he fought away. He got by on craft intelligence and an understanding of being in posisitons to get more pucnhes of than his oppenent. He had very few elements of other worldclass boxer in big power speed ect, you can easily see he was an intelligent fighter.

You dont always do that in sparring, and im not saying it was an achievement im looking at it for what it was, are you familar with the story of there spar, sr. talking trash to spadaforas team telling them may was going to be best pound for pound and wanted to fight spadafora and it was organised for a day or two later and a few went out to watch.

The only way you would know this, is if you've been smelling it?

Sparring sessions rarely prove anything, sometimes a fighter while sparring can have a different mindset, he can be tired, or disinterested etc.

All that matters is what happens on fight night.

Heres some famous sparring sessions that didnt quite go to plan when it came to the real thing

    Berbick dropped Tyson
Bruno beat Tyson up in sparring.
Carl Williams schooled Tyson in sparring.

Biggs and Morrison beat Bowe up in sparring and Morrison apparently knocked him out.

    Sparring sessions dont mean ****

He is a solid fighter, top notch for sure. I'm not doubting that, just stated my opinion regarding his general recognition and appreciation. I can safely say that he's a similar case as Witherspoon. Everyone likes to remember how Tyson and Ali were screwed/robbed by King because of their popularity but very few know how he literally ruined Witherspoon's entire career.

He was his sparring partner, he was paid to spar with him. This wasn't a challenge and all this talk about his father hyping it as such prior to them sparring is nonsense. Surely and easily far more people, despite Mayweather's popularity at the time, would've easily joined in to watch for free.
