Ali decked Oscar Bonavena again after not going to a neutral corner. Most fighters are opportunists. Winning a fight is hard...you have to use the opportunities given to you. I think any of those guys might've done it. Those were very UNUSUAL circumstances last night. Ortiz behaved unusually....typically you apologize, touch gloves, and continue. He tried to change the script by giving this extended apology. No one knew what was going on...Floyd reverted back to his instinct for winning fights, and won.
And I'm no Floyd fan at alll....I just think Ortiz created a weird situation in which anything could've happened, and it did.

People crying about "FIND ME AN INCIDENT!!!" need to realize the question is WOULD they do it, not DID they do it and yes, all of those boxers, in that incident would potentially do it. I think a lot of you underestimate just how dirty boxing has always been. None of the all time greats are paragons of fair play.

there was a similar incident in the ali-frazier first fight actually:

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RuhBXULCXQ&feature=related[/ame]

about 7:45 in the video mercante accidentally pokes frazier in the eye when separating the fighters. frazier steps away even though you can hear the referee say 'go ahead, go ahead', but ali waits until frazier takes up his boxing stance again before throwing any punches.

Muhammad Ali is a bad example if we are talking sportsmanship. Ali was heavily criticised for prolonging the beating on a clearly injured Patterson and overmatched Terrell.

IMO Ortiz got off lightly getting knocked out. Floyd was easily in control and could have just prolonged a beating for as long as he wanted.

It's fairly safe to say most rational people have accepted the punches were legal but certainly a cheapshot. The cheapshot implies bad sportsmanship (which is fine) but judging from alot of the posts, people have forgotten some of the greats of yesteryear had been guilty of poor sportsmanship at times.

I was only drawing on parrallels that Ali himself was heavily criticised for poor sportsmanship against Patterson and Terrell for toying with his opponents and prolonging a slow beating rather than just end the fight at the first opportunity.

If Mayweather allowed Ortiz to survive the fourth round and administered another eight rounds of a torturous beating, toying with Ortiz rather than just knock him out, people would be complaining about bad sportsmanship with that.

Are you even listening to yourself.

    Floyd sucker punched Ortiz!

So Floyd took a higher ground by not punishing Ortiz more?

and does him a favor by cheap shooting when he was off guard?

Ali prolonging the beating of Patterson and Terrell? Referee decides whether the beating is too much or not.

    Read your ****ing post!
