Would sugar ray Robinson be regarded as the or one of the greatest if he had fought in recent times?

There is also the factor, if sugar had come along later and say won a middle weight title in the early 90 s would he have even lost? Would have locked horns no doubt with nunn, toney and Hopkins. If he beat s those guys then Jones there's no one touching him. But that's another story.

Im actually not so sure he could have beaten toney. At his best he was a technical, defensive, counter punching marvel with a granite chin and could also fight on the inside. Maybe in a best of 3.

Regardless, robinson cleans out almost any welter or middleweight division in nearly any era.

It would be difficult simply because of the number of fights he would likely have would be so many less than prior eras.

He wouldn't need to fight 15-20 times annually because he's probably getting paid really good money. Probably by HBO, Robinson was a brilliant negotiatior.

I think yes, as he was a once-in-a-generation fighter - possibly the greatest who ever lived.

But Sugar Ray in this era would lose to Sugar Ray in the era he came from.

Let's consider Ray Robinson had been born in 1970. Let's consider all these modern boys that so many say could beat him had been born during the Depression Era or, in Ray's case, born in 1921. IMHO there's simply no argument. He truly was the greatest fighter ever to step through the ropes.

No fighter touches Ray in all round ability. This plus he could take your head off with a single blow. The manner he set up the one punch KO of Graziano was a thing of beauty.

Well, Floyd Mayweather did say that Ray can't be considered the best ever because he lost 19 times in his career.

No doubt he would be the greatest still. HD color television would show his abilities as if he was from another planet.

Boxing analyst would talk about SRR like they talk about Lomachenko today but at an higher standard.

As a matter of curiosity, when exactly was the mythical concept of the P4P greatest fighter invented or first used?

Pretty sure it was coined to describe the greatness of one Sugar Ray Robinson. :campeon:
