Would the best thing for Wladdy's legacy be to lose one to Povektin and...

    ...win a rubber match.

As strange, counter intuitive and downright wrong as it is, a lot of people define "great" fighters only by the other "great" fighters that they have beaten. This kind of thing occurrs in time such times as the sevenites when people beat each other. Thus, they define greatness by losses.

If Wlad lost a rematch to Povetkin and then came back and won a third, would the loss prove his "greatness" by making Povetkin "great?"

After this, he would have no one in his way until Joshua and he could easily get to 25-26 defenses.

Keep in mind, this is not a debate about whether Povetkin COULD beat Wladdy, just if it would ironically be better for Wlad.

it would probably help. povetkins performances since losing to wlad already raise wlads standing.

I don't think a loss to Povetkin now hurts Wlad's legacy much and splitting 2-1 against him would definitely raise his stock as much as it would legitimize Povetkin on paper.

I strongly disagree. I think a loss never helps a legacy unless it was an outright robbery.

Povetkin is no where close to being "great". Again I'm gonna ask this question, what a hell do you people see in this fat dude because I don't get. Dude is basic as fock.

What is so special about Povetkin?

It would depend on how he lost and how he regained the championship. If he loses a boring hugfest getting outpointed people will say he got old. If he got stopped, same thing but add on the chin factor that has been put on him by fans for years now. Should he come back and WIN a boring decision after either of these occurences I dont think it either raises or lowers his bar. Now if he lost a close fight that was exciting and than came back to win the next by exciting decision or a stoppage I think people would be more inclined to elevate him. Whether any of this is true I dont know, its just how I think it would play out.

    The loss alone doesn't help.

The loss and then avenging it with the rubber match, however...

That would be even more potent than simply winning the rematch and going 2-0, as counter-intuitive as that may sound.

The loss in the rematch by itself neither helps nor hinders Wlad's legacy. It does virtually nothing. Winning the rematch is obviously better.

Winning the rubber match, is best case scenario.

Then Wlad has a signature rivalry to define his reign and quiet the "he's all quantity with no quality" naysayers.

D****s violates the word filter. The word filter violates ME.

You might even say it d****s me, without the D.

Why is the word r**e banned anyway? Murder, Arson, Pedophilia, Matricide Patricide, Genocide, Theft, Smuggling, Battery, Torture and Assault aren't.
