Would the boxing commissions allow a 185-199 fighter to fight at heavyweight?

By that, I mean someone who will weigh 185-199 on fight night? Let's say this hypothetical fighter is highly skilled. He could hit hard enough to KO much larger men and he was capable of taking punches from big men who could Crack.

Would he be allowed to try his hand at heavyweight or would the sanctioning bodies insist he put on weight?

It depends where you are and who you are fighting. In a place like Oklahoma or Wyoming they would do it in a second. I suspect that in other places, if they were trying to build some 250 pound guy as a KO artist it would be ok as well.

even if they wouldn't, a 190 lb guy could simply drink 2 litres of diet coke and eat a pizza and show in for the weigh in. He will automatically weigh 200 lbs temporarily.

10 pounds of food is a lot. Perhaps the 190 pound guy should take up competitive eating to prepare.

If its a 190 lb guy like Marciano or Dempsey, my guess is that they would not want to gain 10-15 lbs of actual weight because it was negatively effect their speed. These guys hit more than hard enough.

So if i were them, i would just drink a lot of diet coke and eat a heavy meal and pretend i am over 200 lbs. I would not want my 240 lb opponent to go in with a huge psychological advantage in that they are fighting a little man.

So i would go into fight night at 190 lbs while pretending that i am over 200 lbs naturally.

I was thinking of Louis vs Carnera. Louis was 197 pounds with same day weigh ins and Carnera was 260 at 6'7. It would be assumed today that Louis, at 197, would be too small to hurt the giant. But in reality, he pulverized the giant and his punching power sent Carnera to the canvas multiple times.

That's a good pick. I think that really hard hitting 185-199 lb guys like Marciano, Dempsey and Louis can hurt big men. But obviously these men are more the exception than the rule.

The CW limit was 190lbs when RJJ fought Ruiz.

I am not aware of a minimum weight limit to fight at HW, though I don't know for certain if the alphabet bodies would insist on a fighter being over the current CW limit to challenge for their HW belt.

We know the WBC and WBA don't insist a fighter being above their Bridgerweight limit, as their current HW champion weighs under the BW limit.

I think Carnera is a weird case though because of his “mutation”
