As they were around the same time that Williams got the better of Margarito would Cotto have fared any better?

On face value I think Williams would have teed off on the smaller man from a far but Cotto was a real force to be reckoned with, as he still is but now he seems even more vulnerable after the bad loss and Clottey close shave.

    Could Williams have stopped Cotto?

Id favor Williams over Cotto 9/10 times.

Not a really good benchmark, Margo started off really slow that fight, but was winning in the later rounds

I would as well. Williams' length and pressure would always have given Cotto hell.

    Yes. Cotto can't beat Williams.

Cotto "struggled" according to his fans to get to the body of the wide open Margarito.

He would struggle a lot more with Williams.

This fight would be a shut out with Williams keep Cotto at a distance. Late TKO on cuts.

    Thanks:good

On the same topic how do you think Shane Mosley would have faired against Williams at the time? He fought Luis Collazo at that time before Cotto.

I'm just trying to get a picture of where The Punisher was in the pecking order at Welter.

    Williams beats him as well.

    Williams beats everyone at 147.

In the Quintana fight, he didn't train properly, was not focused and came down in weight badly. Just look at the rematch, he looked fresher, A LOT faster and easily won.

In a close fight. (Quintana clearly won but that was not a schooling the way some talk about it)

    Ok! :nodlast question

    Paul Williams vs Mayweather?

Could Mayweather stay out of reach of the Punisher and score a win?

It was around the Del a Hoya fight timeline

Nope. Mayweather would probably have the best chance to win but he's too small and would be too inactive for Williams. Williams would overwhelm Floyd with constantly throwing, while keeping a good defense.

I kind of favor PW but the fact is that Williams had trouble with Margo at the end as Margo started too slow and Williams definately lost to Quintana in their first fight... The second fight was a total different story as that punch that KO Quintana was placed perfectly at the right moment in the first round. I don't think that PW would be able to do the exact same thing to Cotto in the same fashion as Cotto has better chin than Quintana.

I think that Cotto may be able to make PW look bad... I honestly give Cotto a chance but wouldn't be surprised if Williams win at all. One thing I am sure of... It would not be a one side fight as some people think. It would definately be a competitive fight.

If this topic would have been brought at the time, most people would be picking Cotto. I think the Williams that beat Margarito is not as good as the one after the Quintana rematch. I say it's a toss up, because Williams high output would still bother Cotto, a lot.
